You’ve seen the coach call a time out just before the kicker attempts a field goal. He does this to get inside their head. To disrupt or undermine their focus. This strategy is not only in sports, but in life too! That comes to our attention today on Abounding Grace with pastor Ed Taylor.

There’s no debating the fact that in this world of ours the majority would much rather be served than serve. That’s often the case in the church sad to say. Just look at the average church and their struggle to fill volunteer roles in the nursery, Sunday School teachers, sound ministry workers, and on and on it goes. We’ll see how greatness is built on the foundation of servanthood today on Abounding Grace as pastor Ed Taylor resumes his study of John.

We’re about to sit in on an argument between the disciples over the question, Who’s going to be the greatest in the kingdom of God? It’s interesting how Jesus would respond, and through it all we discover a valuable lesson on what’s really important in life. And what a needed reminder for life as we know it in the year 2022. Pastor Ed Taylor has us turn to the thirteenth chapter of John today on Abounding Grace where we see Jesus lay down a beautiful example of what a servant should look like.

If you knew you only had a few hours to live, what would you do for those last precious moments? A Lot of people would probably enjoy a big meal, travel or spend time with family. When Jesus Christ knew that the time had come for Him to be arrested and crucified, what did He do? He prays that the Father would be glorified! One of the best ways to understand the heart of Jesus Christ is to look at the things He did in the last hours of His life, when He knew He was about to be crucified. We'll do that today.

Join us today in John chapter twelve as we get ready for another great time in the Word. It may seem strange to you when I tell you that in order to really live, you must first die! But it’s true. We must die to ourselves, in order to truly live for God. And the passage we’re about to look at emphasizes this truth.

God has a lot to say about giving in His Word, and that gives us a clue that it’s important to Him. Since that’s the case, it should be important to us as well. And today on Abounding Grace we’re going to hear of a dear lady that gave to the Lord something of great cost. It can serve to inspire us all to be sacrificial givers. God can use it and bless others in great ways.

Pastor Ed Taylor will camp out in John chapter twelve verse three today. And if you’ll recall last time, we were talking about true worship as seen in the life of Mary. But today we want to have you also consider her sacrificial giving. We’re told that she poured a very costly oil onto the feet of Jesus. Some saw it as a waste, but the Lord saw it for what it truly was an act of worship and sacrificial giving.
