I’m sure you can think of a time when someone said something really awful about you, behind your back, and it was untrue! Worse yet, people believed it, and before you know it, it was spread all over town. Sadly that sort of behavior has only gotten worse, with the advent of the internet. But how should we respond to that sort of thing? Do we lash out in anger or shutdown? Actually, there’s a much better way to go, and it’s modeled for us by the apostle Paul in Second Corinthians chapter two.

I think it’s safe to say we’ve all been misunderstood and had someone falsely accuse us of something. Worse yet is when people believe it, without even talking to you! Today we continue a series in Second Corinthians. In First Peter 4:12 we read “Beloved do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings.” We’re to expect suffering as we go through life, and as we’ll discover today God wants to be our comforter through it all.

We’ve decided to present a mini-series on giving, as we’re in Second Corinthians chapters eight and nine, which is the emphasis of this section of Scripture. When it comes to giving God is more concerned with our heart than the amount. Remember the poor widow who gave two mites? Though that gift may not have caught the attention of people, it sure caught the Lord’s attention in a good way! So then what is the key to giving that pleases God? Pastor Ed suggests looking to Jesus as the supreme example.
