All of us have encountered difficulties that we’ve had to contend with, but when was the last time you went looking for trouble? No, I’m not talking about breaking the law, but rather making our presence known to a person or group of people who defy God or the things God loves. Today on Abounding Grace pastor Ed Taylor will take a look at the familiar story of David and Goliath. Pastor Ed will show us we all face giants in life, and while it can be a little scary, it’s an opportunity to trust in God and lean on His strength.

Pastor Ed Taylor is currently developing his study of the Old Testament book of 1st Samuel, where we’re drawing rich application for our lives. Today we’ll return to a story probably familiar to most of you. When God was looking for the second king of Israel, a 16 year old shepherd boy caught His eye. Most in that day I’m sure thought this was a poor choice, but God saw a young man who was after His own heart.

It doesn’t take long for the Christian to come to the realization that God’s plans for us don’t always make sense. God works in ways that we often don’t and won’t understand, and when that takes place, we need to adjust our perspective, values, or timetable to fit His. Today on Abounding Grace pastor Ed Taylor will show us how to do that. We are traveling through 1st Samuel at the present time, and here today we’ll be looking at chapter sixteen. It’s here that the Lord anoints David to be King over Israel.

Last time we observed the healing of the lame man at the beautiful gate. It was truly an amazing miracle. Which raises the question… who should get the glory for this? God or the human instrument that He uses? In light of all that’s going on around us today, it’s an important question for us to carefully consider, even in our own lives as we go about serving the Lord.

In the Bible we have some wonderful examples on how to live and honor God, but there are also some examples on what not to do! And in the passage before us King Saul is trying to do things his own way, attempting to fight the flesh with the flesh. And that never goes well! Pastor Ed is going to take this opportunity to encourage us to do the right thing, the right way, with the right motive!

Pastor Ed Taylor is teaching from the book of First Samuel right now. Find your place in chapter fourteen. Lately we’ve been observing the life of Saul, and it’s not a pretty picture. And things go from bad to worse as we look at this chapter of his life. We could sum it up by describing him as a fleshly, carnal man! Not something you want to be known for, so let’s see what we can learn from it.

Wouldn’t you like to come to the end of your life, with no regrets? Where you wouldn’t be saying, I should have or I wonder what could have been? Today on Abounding Grace we’ll focus on four words that really describe King Saul’s life: The Lord Would Have! Pastor Ed Taylor says that doesn’t have to be your story if you’ll learn from Saul’s mistakes.

We're in Acts chapter three once again. Some may view what we’re about to study as an interruption, but could it be a divine appointment? You can be sure God is in control of our lives, and leading us, just as He was for Peter and John at this particular time!
