Pastor Ed Taylor has been leading us through First Kings in a chapter by chapter and here lately we’ve been studying the life of Solomon. In chapter eleven he’s not in a good place, and his heart turned from the Lord. It can easily happen to us too, so we’d do well to see where things went wrong and learn how to avoid repeating these mistakes.

As we’ve been studying the life of Solomon we’ve learned how he grew in wealth and wisdom by the hand of God. His reputation really spread around the world and caught the attention of the Queen of Sheba. When she visited Solomon she was really blown away by the wisdom of Solomon. Now today we’ll take notice of his great wealth, something that should be used for the glory of God! I should add, the same holds true for what we’ve been entrusted with.

It was often observed for years that when you would arrive at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, you’d often see pastor Chuck Smith walking the campus picking up trash. That was such a good example of what we’ll be talking about today on Abounding Grace, and that is to pay attention to the details. It really does matter as we set out to serve and bring glory to God.

You could probably go on for days reciting all of your past failures and mistakes. And the enemy would love to use that to keep you down and discouraged. But as we’ll learn today on Abounding Grace, the Lord wants to release you from that burden and help you rise above. The great lie in our culture today is that sex outside of marriage is perfectly fine. In fact people are made to feel comfortable in that sin, even in the church. But God loves us so much that He tells us the truth no matter how hard it may be to hear. His will is that none would perish, but that all would have eternal life. We’ll soon see that sexual sin is a serious matter and needs to be avoided. Today on Abounding Grace we’re pausing to consider a serious warning in First Corinthians six. Many people today are led to believe they can live like the world and still go to heaven. But a lifestyle of sin is an indicator of something terribly wrong.

When we fail, and we all do, we might find it difficult to get beyond it. We might even feel condemned! But it’s important to remember at such times that God’s promises remain faithful. And He tells us there is no condemnation for those in Christ. That’s emphasized in this chapter before us.

Anger it’s one of the most frequently committed sins in the body of Christ. But what’s left behind are hurt feelings, and damaged relationships!
