I think we’d all agree that stealing is bad and actually forbidden by God. But imagine actually stealing from God, in a church? That actually occurs more than we’d like to think unfortunately, and something King Ahaz did during his rule and reign. That pattern is played out in many lives today. So this is an excellent reminder to abide and obey abide in the Lord and obey Him steering clear of compromise that will only hurt us.

The city of Corinth was engaged in idolatry big time. There were also several pagan temples in the city and each one was quite popular. You can see why the apostle Paul felt it was so important to get the message of Christ to these people -- that their hopes shouldn’t be placed in things made by the hands of men, but rather in the hands of the One who made men. We’re about to learn that Christian liberty doesn’t include the freedom to sin!

Pastor Ed Taylor will finish up 2 Kings chapter thirteen. Elisha is sick and about to die and Pastor Ed will relate that to our experiences with sickness and death. We’ll then go on to discuss how we’re to treat our spiritual leaders. And as we close things out we’ll notice three great victories King Joash experienced over the Syrians. It’s a reminder that victory comes by faith in God.

Whether it’s a friend or family member that is just diagnosed with cancer, or the doctor tells you that you have an incurable disease, it’s a good idea to take it to the Lord in prayer. God still heals today. But as we’ll learn today on the New Year’s edition of Abounding Grace, sometimes He chooses to heal in a way we don’t expect. Like taking the person to heaven.
