Dr. Aimée Derbes, DACM, LAc is a welcoming, grounded soul. I first heard about her over a year ago, when looking for breathwork circles to attend. Starting the new year off in a healthy way is always good. I sat down with my friend, Health Coach Mary Ellen Zung, to talk about sugar, processed foods, meat and veggies, to see what we need to eat to live well in 2020. Bananas? Carbs? Meat?

We also discuss two cleanses she is offering. This is not the type of cleanse that has you not eating, buying specific products, or depleting calories. Not my jam. This is a cleanse that has you eating as much as you want, just taking a thing or two out of your diet.

Mary Ellen holds a BA in Psychology from Emmanuel College, a teaching certificate, and has been a long-time student of nutrition science and coaching methodology. She worked as a wellness coach with a popular weight loss company for 14 years, and received further training and certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where she studied a variety of dietary theories and practical lifestyle coaching methods. Mary Ellen also works as a certified Lifestyle Coach for the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program and is the author of a health and wellness blog and newsletter.

She is a member of the International Association of Health Coaches, the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, and the Natural Life Business Partnership.

I found Mike on social media last year when he was first opening his studio, Good Vibes Yoga + Kombucha Bar. He looked like a cool guy, and I liked the idea of the studio + kombucha, so I reached out. I asked if I could offer a breathwork circle at his studio, and the rest is history. He's an amazing guy, his heart is with yoga and spirituality, and he has an amazing group of people teaching for him. Listen in, and hear why I think Mike is so cool. Mike is owner and instructor at Good Vibes Yoga Bar in Nutley NJ. Now a little over one year after opening the growing practicing community that is Good Vibes, one can look at the past four years of Mike's life and see quite a transition. Growing up in NJ in a very loving Italian family, Mike's life was centered around that culture and would spend 11+ years working with, selling, and marketing products imported from Italy. Life was comfortable. There was good pay, there was a good job title, there was also a lot of indulgence. However even with such a comfortable position.. loss of his brother when he was younger, a cousin in 2016, and a few relationship struggles fueled inner struggle to find happiness and contentment. Yoga started as a physical support to other physical disciplines he was working on, but slowly seduced him into having his own yoga practice beyond the physical. This inspired curiosity in learning about the metaphysics behind spiritual practices and consciousness exploration. A few signs seemed to have popped up during this period of self inquisition that compelled Mike to making this yoga practice something he needed to put most of his efforts towards and to share with others. Eight years from first stepping on his mat, and now a little over two years from starting his teacher training, Mike is now fully immersed in teaching, managing the studio, and growing his practice.
