Not knowing the future is troubling, but knowing that God not only knows the future but is directing it is of immense comfort. This is the great theme of the book of Daniel and it’s our focus today and in the coming days here on According to the Scriptures with pastor Damian Kyle.

Rebellious towards authority, proud, unteachable, controlling, harsh and heavy-handed… that would describe Diotrophes. And in case you haven’t noticed, those types of people are in the world and even in the church today. As we wrap up Third John here on According to the Scriptures, we’ll not only consider the evil actions of Diotrophes, but be encouraged to imitate what is good rather than evil!

We’re in Second John today. As we learned last time, this is a letter all about truth and love. But it also has something important to say about deceivers. Back in that day there were many deceivers and false teachers roaming around and John wanted to help believers spot them and know how to handle them too. In case you haven’t noticed we face the very same problem today. So we’d do well to pay close attention to these descriptions of the deceivers, so we’re not led astray.

Today we begin Second John. While it doesn’t take long to read, it does take a lifetime to apply. You see, it’s all about truth and love! And those are two things that are under attack and greatly misunderstood today. So we’d do well to give our attention to what it has to say to us.

Keep yourselves from idols… an interesting way to end this epistle of First John. But a word we desperately need to hear and receive today. Pastor Damian Kyle is wrapping up First John today with this heart-searching verse, and it’s a good time for us to consider what the master passion of our life is. Is it something or someone other than God? Consider that with us now as we listen to part two of, “We Know.”
