    # 8 - “Is Freedom Really Free”

Act Like Men – Men’s Leadership Podcast

    Sponsored by Men’s Ministry Catalyst

    Outlined Show Notes

The Need:   People take Freedom for granted.  Because we are in a country that was founded so it citizens could have freedom, for generations it is assumed that we will always be free.  What does Freedom really mean?  What is the cost of our freedom?  What happens when it is taken for granted?   What is the outcome of the cost of Freedom?

The Reason:  In this podcast we look at the high cost of our military endeavors to make and keep America free.   We will also talk briefly on the Spiritual path of Freedom.  What is the cost, who pays it, and what do we need to do to retain it.

The Resources: Dr. Jim Grassi’s, book Overcoming Barriers Men Face, provides practical guidelines to dealing with the top 14 challenges men face to maintain the freedom that God has given us.

This resource is available at: www.mensministrycatalyst.org/resources

The Result: With the high cost of our freedom we enjoy in America as well as the Freedom that God has given us Spiritually, let’s resolve to never take either one for granted, but to live a life of gratitude that spills into the lives of our family, friends, community, workplace and of course our church.

Looking at your current faith journey, what is one thing you can thank God for today?

Looking at those around you, looking at those around you, how can you be an instrument of gratitude in their lives?

What is one thing you can do to ensure that you support the American freedom?

What is one thing you can do to embrace the spiritual freedom that God has given you?

  • Episode #7 | Spiritual Mentoring | You Need a Barnabus and a Timothy

    # 7 - “Mentoring – Barnabas and Timothy”

Act Like Men – Men’s Leadership Podcast

    Sponsored by Men’s Ministry Catalyst

The Need:   In our last session on Mentoring, we talked about the need for a “Paul” in our life.  The reason for this is that it is so much faster to have a guide who has been where you have not yet gone.   The journey is so much faster and more effective at growth, avoiding pitfalls, and having someone to keep you moving forward.   Without this, it can be like going where you have never gone without any form of GPS to help you get there.  It takes longer and you may not ever arrive without this guide.

The Reason:  In this podcast we are specifically looking at those beside us to encourage and help hold accountable and those not yet as mature in either age or spiritual experiences for whom we can become involved as other have done for us.  This completes a full circle on Matthew 28’s call to discipleship making.

The Resources: Dr. Jim Grassi’s, book The Spiritual Mentor, provides a clear pathway for men to follow to help them become involved in Spiritually Mentoring at any level with those men around us.

    Available at: www.mensministrycatalyst.org/resources

The Result: We now can complete this discipling circle when we support our peers in the faith and those who are not as mature as are we.   It is the fulfilling of the Great Commission in its entirety.

Looking at your current faith journey, who could be a Barnabas for you and you for them?

Looking at those around you, for whom could be a Paul (them as a Timothy)?

    What is your next step?

The Need:   Out of Dr. Jim Grassi’s personal life transformation, God called him to help other men who were pursing success over significance – especially with the cost of that pursuit being his wife and two sons.   Hear about his radical life transformation.

The Reason: Men typically pursue that which can be measured – success at work and our hobbies.   God is calling us into relationship with Him and Spiritual leadership in with our family, our community, workplace and of course our church – all of which is very difficult to measure success or check a box.

The Resources: Dr. Jim Grassi, our Founder has written 18 books at this time.  However, one that really speaks to this life transformation is “Act Like Men”.  It was written to address the socially changing model of the Biblical man.  Available at: www.mensministrycatalyst.org/resources

The Result: We are called to proactively make a difference in the world around us as authentic, biblically based men of God.

What one thing am I doing in my family, neighborhood, and workplace to share God’s love that the Holy Spirit can use to transform their life?

What men do I have – or could I have - around me that I need to be more intentional with?

The Need:   Men can be confused and sometimes lost when it comes to making disciples (Matt 28) or mentoring someone spiritually.  It can also be overwhelming since we do not have all the answers that other men should and will be asking of us. However, being men, we believe we should have all the answers before the questions are asked.

The Reason: This topic moves into the arena of relationships, which men tend to do, rather than be in a relationship.  This topic will take away some of the mystic of this journey with other men.

The Resources: Dr. Jim Grassi’s, book The Spiritual Mentor, addresses these concerns along with building a pathway for men to follow to help them become what God wishes for all of us, which is to be Spiritually Mentoring those men around us.  Available at: www.mensministrycatalyst.org/resources

The Result: Spiritual Mentoring is the biblical model of men reaching other men to introduce them to Jesus, or to help  them grow in their faith as are you.

How do I feel about becoming a Spiritual Mentor?

What barrier must I overcome to be able to fully step into this area?

Who immediately comes to mind that I could help along the journey?

The Need:  With 61% of most churches being women, clearly many men are missing from the church or passive within the church.

The Reason:  Legacy Christian Fellowship has done a great job of getting men in their church and are intentionally integrating them into the life of the church.  How do they do that?  Where does it start?  What is the focus of their intentionality?

For further discussion with our Guest:  Rev. John Nunnally, Lead Pastor of Legacy Christian Fellowship   Available at: www.legacychristian.org   [email protected]

The Result:  An integrated church with men in the “Jesus Style” of leadership (service), and an intentional, patient, yet forward moving process to help their men have the impact should at home, workplace, community and of course their local church.

Looking at your family, how can you intentionally be more involved in the leadership of your family?

Looking at church, where can you gifts be used to serve others?

What is the name of one person, you can become more intentionally involved in a mentoring process?

  • Episode # 3 | Resourcing the Church | Featuring Dr. Jim Grassi

#3 – “The Purpose and Resources of MMC”

How MMC can Impact Churches! Dr. Jim Grassi

Act Like Men – Men’s Leadership Podcast

The Need:  Less than 10% of churches in America have an engaging, life-transforming ministry with their men.  Less than 1% of the men in an average church are actively engaged in the ministry to their men.    95% of the men in America say they do not have a close friend.  The need of having transformed, authentic, biblically based men of God has never been greater in our world than it is today.

The Reason: Out of a lack of materials to support life transformation with the men in America, primarily thru their local church, many of the resources in MMC were created.   There are four books specifically that speak to ministry to men within the context of the local church.

The Resources: As we have stated, Dr. Jim Grassi our Founder, has written 18 books at this time.  However, to help men be transformed in the context of a local church, there are four books we recommend:  The Spiritual Mentor, which is a foundational book to the fulfillment of the great commission in Matthew 28; Act Like Men, lays the foundation for the need for men to follow the biblical model that has been laid out of us on the role of men;  Overcoming Barriers Men Face, speaks to specific issues men face and how to overcome them with biblical wisdom;  Finishing Strong, Finishing Well, specifically speaks to the laying of a foundation for legacy and for connecting and mentoring the next generation.

The Result: by creating a pathway for men to follow, they now know how to go where they have never been, have a great impact than they ever dreamed, and are more fulfilled than pursuing success all by itself.

Where is your emphasis – Success or significance?

What is one simple step you can do today to further pursue Gods calling on your life today?

The Need:   Men today struggle more than ever before.   95% of men say they do not have a close male friend.  Men commit suicide 4x higher than do women.  Fewer than 10% of churches can sustain a ministry to men.  Fewer than 1% of men in the church are consistently involved with ministries to men.  Absentee fathers has been identified as one of the most significant family or social problems facing America today.

The Reason:  The reason this is so important is because men have either surrendered their biblical responsibilities and society at the same time has feminized the men.

The Resources: Dr. Jim Grassi, our Founder has written 18 books at this time.  However, one that really speaks to this life transformation is “Act Like Men”.  It was written to address the socially changing model of the Biblical man.

     Available at: www.mensministrycatalyst.org/resources

The Result: The result must be that men begin to assume their spiritual responsibility in the family, the community, the workplace and the church and do so in love.  I Corinthians 16:13-14

In looking around me, where do I see the men, I know today?  Confused, lost, distracted?

Where do I place myself on this scale?

What men do I have – or could I have - around me that I need to be more intentional in building a spiritual relationship?
