Kyler Murray didn’t bench. He didn’t jump. He nearly caught a football to the face while sitting down, and, boy, did he throw.
And that was really what all 32 teams and nearly 100 credentialed members of the media were in Norman to see. With XFL Seattle head coach Jim Zorn soft tossing him footballs and former Sooners Carson Meier, Jarvis Baxter, Geneo Lewis in routes, you could’ve been forgiven for not recognizing Charleston Rambo catching passes from Murray too.
Rambo was allowed to catch passes for Murray at Pro Day because of a rule that allows for five players who will be eligible for next year’s NFL Draft to participate in pro days. As a redshirt freshman, Rambo was eligible and given that opportunity to show his speed, hands and route-running ability to NFL personnel in a way so many do not.
After recording three of his eight catches and only touchdown of his career in the Orange Bowl against Alabama in December, Sooner fans pegged Rambo as the heir-apparent to replace former Sooner Marquise Brown at wide receiver.
