Since the centennial has ended, we've decided to branch out with the podcast. Starting with this episode, we will be bringing you 2 podcasts. The first is a weekly podcast that gives you the news and highlights from around Cook County.
The second podcast which will be bi-weekly will be interviews with local people, about local issues or news and in depth looks at what's going on in Cook County.
We hope you'll stay with us, and as always...let us know how we're doing!
There is a big tree in the middle of the road on Meeting street here in Adel. Since 1977 the community that surrounds it has come together and decorated it, and had a small festival at its base.
Today we cover a little of the history of that...with two lovely ladies who tell us all about how it began.
Maria Hardman steps into the co-host chair and we talk about the differences between news coverage in 1919 and the news coverage now. What the big stories of that year were, and who was involved.
We discuss how the more things change the more they stay the same...and alot of other fun topics.
BONUS Stories from our Soldiers and Sailors who we interviewed for our podcast.
Some FUNNY stories.
Interviews with several members of the Vietnam Veteran's of America who come from and participate in the Cook County Chapter. Each man talks of his experiences in the military during the Korean and Vietnam eras, and tell some of their in-country stories.
Features:
Lt. Commander Bill Emrich
Lt. James E Sellers
1st SGT Rayford Wilson
Corporal Dan Dalhover
Sgt Bobby Swain
An episode focusing on the spooky side of Cook County and some of the history and lore of the county.
Heather Heitlauf talks about "Frightville" her haunted house that is actually haunted...and Charles Shiver talks about our local "Woman in White" legend.
Plus a few UFO stories in honor of Orson Welles broadcast of "War of the Worlds" in 1938...
An interview with Mike Williams about his father John L Williams, and the family business. We will talk about the old Green Frog Restaurant and the King Frog's connections to Red Lobster...and a whole lot more.
6 foot 4 inches and 270 pounds of solid muscle, Coach Long was a force at Cook High and a whole bunch of other places. In this episode, I interview Jim Long, owner of the Cook County Advertiser and the son of Coach Bruce Long. We talk about the dad, the man and the coach that helped bring Cook County baseball up to the next level.
A return to a previous subject, Mr. David Jackson of Adel. This podcast includes an interview with Mrs. Linda Meadows about her progress on getting a section of Old Quitman Road here in Adel designated as a memorial to Mr. Jackson and his wife Comer King Jackson.
