Adopted Black Girl

Season 1 taught me so much and as we gear up for Season 2, the conversations are getting deeper and transitioning.  Last year, we were told everywhere, whether on social media or in our friend groups to "choose ourselves" - But how? 

As a kinship adoptee, I wanted to understand what that looked like for me when most of my identities were based on my situation not my soul. In this episode, I'll be sharing some notes from the archives and how I processed the action of choosing myself.

The system is already crazy and that mental battle is a hard one to navigate after those papers are signed. We have a lot more to talk about, but today, let's reflect so we can continue to go forward.

How do you manage tough conversations with others when you struggle to do it with yourself?

I know all too well.

It’s easy to shut everyone out when you’re feeling low. But how do you find your way back? 

I get it, it can get comfortable in your cocoon but when it’s time for you to need someone, who you gonna call and how are you going to navigate that? 

I broke it down in four steps to how to get started. This in no way replaces seeing a mental health practitioner but this helped me when I just wasn’t ready yet. And I still do it to this day.

I received a call this week from my emotions and I tried not to answer. Turns out, they hate going to voicemail.
