For Advent in 2019 we walked through the metanarrative of scripture; creation, fall, redemption, and restoration. We decided to re-air this series this year to go long with our new Biblical Theology Advent Cards! We created these cards to guide families through the story of scripture focusing on God the Son and His role from creation all the way to restoration.
On episode 81 of the Adorned Podcast we discuss creation. The Son did not just suddenly appear at His incarnation, but has always been. We see this through the trinitarian language used way back in Genesis! We would love for you to listen in as we discuss what this means for us during the Christmas season.
Quotes:
“The Bible provides us with the basic story that we need in order to understand our world and to live in it as God’s people” -The Drama of Scripture
“Heresy is destructive, not just for your mind, but for your life.” -J.T. English
“Christmas is not God's second plan. Before he created the world, God determined to save sinners through the blood of his own Son. The grand narrative of the Bible points to this essential truth -- God determined to bring glory to himself through the salvation of a people redeemed and purchased by his own Son, the Christ. Bethlehem and Calvary were essential parts of God's plan from the beginning, before the cosmos was brought into being as the Son obeyed the will of the Father in creation.” -Al Mohler

On episode 110 of the Adorned Podcast we discuss James 4:1-10. We continue to see the theme of Jesus as the Lord of our lives, not just our savior. Are we worshiping the creation or the Creator? What does James mean when he says we shouldn’t be friends with the world? How can we turn our pride into humility? This passage brings up so many hard, but good questions and we would love for you to join our conversation!
Quotes:
“The better question is not what should I do, but who should I be?” -Jen Wilkin
“The job of the church is not to bring the world into the church but to bring the church into the world.” Tony Evans

On episode 109 of the Adorned Podcast we discuss the two kinds of wisdom that James addresses in the second part of chapter three. What is the difference between earthly wisdom and Godly wisdom? Should we strive to be peacekeepers or peacemakers? We would love for you to join us as we continue to study the book of James!
Quotes:
“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” -A.W. Tozer
“Wisdom is effectively applying truth to everyday circumstances.” -Tony Evans
“Whenever you believe how you feel over what God says, you raise man and his emotions above God and his revelation, and that means it’s human wisdom, not divine wisdom.” -Tony Evans
“We can look at the character of Christ and He will show us what it means to be gentle.” -Erin Kellogg
“If Jesus was a peacekeeper there would be no crucifiction.” -Jen Wilkin
“We’re not just keeping peace, we’re making peace and finding a way for them to be reconciled to each other and work out their differences in a way that honors God and honors each other.” -Jen Wilkin

On episode 107 of the Adorned Podcast we discuss faith and works as addressed James 2:14-26. This specific passage can be confusing and is sometimes misinterpreted. Is James saying that it is our works that save us? Is he contradicting what Paul says in other parts of scripture? Join us as we dive into these questions and more!
Quotes:
“It is therefore faith alone which justifies, and yet the faith which justifies is not alone.” -John Calvin
“A tree has been planted out into the ground. Now the source of life to that tree is at the root, whether it has apples on it or not; the apples would not give it life, but the whole of the life of the tree will come from its root. But if that tree stands in the orchard, and when the springtime comes there is no bud, and when the summer comes there is no leafing, and no fruit-bearing, but the next year, and the next, it stands there without bud or blossom, or leaf or fruit, you would say it is dead, and you are correct; it is dead. It is not that the leaves could have made it live, but that the absence of the leaves is a proof that it is dead. So, too, is it with the professor (of the faith). If he has life, that life must give fruits; if not fruits, works; if his faith has a root, but if there be no works, then it would be correct to depend upon the inference that he is spiritually dead.” -Charles Spurgeon
“True faith accepts Christ as both Savior and Lord.” R.C. Sproul
“If he had true faith it would be impossible that he would be barren of good works because true faith always and everywhere immediately begins to manifest itself in obedience.” -R.C. Sproul
“The works that faith creates is a love for God that leads to a love for others that isn’t perfectly executed, but present.” - Matt Chandler
