İstanbul

İstanbul, Türkiye’nin en büyük şehridir. Öncesinde ismi Konstantinapol, bundan da öncesinde Bizantiyon olarak biliniyordu. Kent, ayrıca tarihsel süreç boyunca az bilinen pek çok isimle anılmıştır. Şu anda İstanbul, Avrupa’nın 3. büyük şehridir. Sadece Moskova ve Londra şehirleri bu şehirden daha büyüktür. Ancak İstanbul, önemli bir farkla ayrılır. İki farklı kıtayı birleştiren dünyanın tek şehridir.

İstanbul, Türkiye’deki doğal limanlardan biri olan Haliç’i içine alan Boğaziçi üzerine kurulmuştur. Tarihsel açıdan, yedi tepenin üzerine inşaa edildiğine inanılmaktadır ve her bir tepenin görkemli bir camisi bulunmaktadır. Şehir ayrıca büyük depremlere sebebiyet veren Kuzey Anadolu Fay Hattı’na yakın uzanmaktadır. Şehrin tarihindeki en kötü depremlerden birisi 1509 yılında gerçekleşmiş ve surları döven bir tsunamiye neden olmuştur. O gün 10,000’den fazla kişi hayatını kaybetmiş ve 100’den fazla camii yıkılmıştır. Yakın tarihte 1999 yılında gerçekleşen depremde ise bölgede 17,000 kişi hayatını kaybetmiştir.

Mimari camiada İstanbul’un, Osmanlı ve Bizans yapılarının en önemli ve en iyi örneklerini taşıdığı bilinmektedir. Şehir, ayrıca Türkiye ekonomisinin can damarıdır çünkü Avrupa ve Asya arasındaki kesişim noktasında yer alır. Limanlar, ayrıca şehrin ekonomik önemini artırmaktadır. Istanbul

The City of Istanbul is the largest city in the nation of Turkey.

Previously it was known by the names of Constantinople and then before that, Byzantium.

The city also held a few other lesser known names throughout the course of its history.

Currently Istanbul is the third largest metro area in all of Europe.

Only the Moscow and London metropolises are larger.

However, Istanbul has another important point of distinction.

It is the world’s only metropolis straddling two different continents.

Istanbul sits on the Bosphorus Strait and includes the Golden Horn, which is a natural harbor in Turkey.

It is historically believed to be built on the tops of seven hills, and each of those hills has an imperial mosque.

The city also lies close to the North Anatolian Fault, which means that massive earthquakes are very common there.

One of the worst quakes in the city’s history happened in 1509, and it caused a tsunami that washed over the walls of the city.

More than 10,000 people died that day, and more than one hundred mosques were destroyed.

A more recent quake in 1999 killed over 17,000 of the residents in both the city and its suburbs.

In the world of architecture, Istanbul is known to contain some of the most important and best examples of Ottoman and Byzantine structures.

The city is also the hub of Turkey’s economy because it sits in an important crossroads between Europe and Asia.

The port adds to the city’s economic importance as well.

Major industries in the city include food processing, rubber, chemicals, textiles, and alcoholic beverages.
