La Feria de Abril

¡Hola a todos! ¿Qué tal os ha ido la semana? Por aquí todo bien. Estamos en pleno mes de Abril, y en una ciudad de España, Sevilla, esperan este mes con impaciencia durante todo el año, porque es el momento de su gran fiesta: la Feria de Abril.

Las ferias eran originalmente reuniones de comerciantes, principalmente ganaderos y agricultores, de una semana de duración aproximadamente. Estas ferias facilitaban la compraventa de los productos del campo, pero también había tiempo para hablar, comer y beber.

Con el paso del tiempo, la parte de la diversión se fue haciendo más importante que la parte comercial, y hoy en día, la Feria de Abril de Sevilla es una fiesta para comer, beber y bailar en las “casetas”, que son unas tiendas temporales, y que llegan a formar casi un pueblo durante una semana dentro de Sevilla.

En el recinto donde se montan las casetas la gente pasea a pie, a caballo o en carruaje, se visitan en sus casetas, se reúnen con sus familiares y amigos, y, sobre todo, se bailan “sevillanas” a todas horas y en todas partes.

Hello, everybody! How has this week been? Everything is going all right here. It’s April, and a city in Spain, Seville, waits anxiously for this month for the whole year, because it’s time for its big celebration: "la Feria de April" (April’s Market).

This festival was originally a meeting for merchants, mainly farmers, which lasted for one week, more or less. These markets allowed buying and selling of farm products, but there was time for chatting, eating, and drinking.

As time passed by, the fun part became more important that the commercial part, and nowadays, "la Feria de Abril" is a celebration for eating, drinking, and dancing in “las casetas,” the temporary stands that nearly make up a town inside Seville for one week.

In the fairground where the stands are assembled, people walk, ride horses or a carriages, visit each other in the “casetas,” meet their relatives and friends, and dance “sevillanas” whenever and wherever.
