Listen as my guest host, Andrea Kumlin, interviewing me on the topic of aging and family caregiving. I shared my personal experience of supporting my mother through recent health challenges, emphasizing the importance of setting boundaries, providing support, and taking time for self-care. We discussed the challenges of balancing caregiving responsibilities with work obligations and highlighting the need for clear communication. I explained the significance of being supportive to my younger sister (who lives closer to mom) while navigating the complexities of elder care and addressing untreated depression. Andrea was a great host, you may remember from a few episodes ago, who can relate to everything I am currently going through due to her business Senior Sass.
DJ is a lifelong entrepreneur who believes in abundance and that there ARE advantages to aging! Her mission is to Make People Better.
Make People Better – 3 impactful words DJ lives by and by which Neora was founded. No wonder she is so passionate about sharing this story. Little did Andrea Kumlin, with Senior Sass, know that caring for her mom's end of life would present her next career opportunity. Once her mom has passed, she dusted herself off and thought it was over. But then family and friends started to go to her for advice.
Andrea had also cared for other family members in their final days. She had a wealth of knowledge to share with others and has now created a way to help others. She gave us sneak peeks of what she offers. One thing she shared was the "go bag". We usually think of this when a woman is expecting. This is a similar idea but for a different stage of life. Andrea shared what was in her go bag and why. It was very insightful and I can't wait to hear what you found most valuable.
Meet Andy Kumlin, the founder of Senior Sass. Andy’s background of living in a multi-generational family and the experience of caring for her mother through the battle with dementia gave Andy tremendous insight into elder concerns in both the physical and financial realms. As she has been asked by friends for advice in the care of their own family and seniors, Andy was surprised to find that Elder Care problem solutions are not well socialized or understood. She is very passionate about advocating for elders and sharing/socializing her knowledge, insights, and solutions.
And, as Andy has reached the age of “Seniorhood” herself, she wants to celebrate with other “Seniors” the wonderful older people they have become, with emphasis on the joy and beauty that lies ahead!

It's easy to dread menopause. Our mother's generation wasn't really allowed to talk abou it, there are all the side effects women complain about, and it can seem like a loss in the sence of your identity changing. But take heart! Tonya Fines is here discussing how to best support our bodies during this transformation. She challenged us to think, "Is this really due to menopause? Or have I changed some habits too?" It's time for you to think about your daiily and weekly activities. What are some small changes you could make ? Yes there is a harmony shift but there are easy ways to be a good partner to your body! Tonya discussed how to best prepare for this next season of life.
Tonya has worked in the Health, Fitness & Wellness industry for over 29 years. While nutrition is an important component of living a healthier lifestyle & dis-ease free it is part of a much bigger equation. It is in recognizing patterns of behavior that are sabotaging the very things you want most, which will allow you to step into a place personal power & the ability to consciously make better choices to live a life of incredible health & wellness.

There are so many advantages to aging and today we're talking extra time, extra money, and acting on today! I was talking to a friend a couple of decades younger than myself and we were talking about what you do once you retire so I thought I'd share the ideas that came from that conversation.
Sit? Relax? No, my advice was to start thinking now about what she'd want to do then. If she's anything like me, I want to live till I'm 117 with my wits about me and a healthy body, then she's going to need something to do with all of that time. I suggested starting something today, for tomorrow. We discussed going into business for yourself, real estate, direct sales, and of course about her joining my team for extra cash now and a revenue stream once she retires.
I pointed out that extra cash means may not mean you're a millionaire, but you will be rich in experiences, time, and available for more opportunities.

"Never Retire", is what you'll hear from Martie Weatherly, founder of Dreams to Action Coaching and my guest for this episode. She's full of inspiration to set an impossible dream and go after it! It's not all downhill once you've reached retirement age. She had been walking with a cane and really thought she'd always be dependent on it. Till she made up her mind that she was going to walk independently some day. And she now walks without a cane. She challenges others to do the same!
Martie was a registered nurse for 60 years. When she retired, she focused on her love of coaching and created Dreams to Action Coaching, where she loves helping people with a big vision achieve their dreams. In the last two years, she discovered that other people approaching or being retired are looking for ways to stay healthy and sharp, prevent dementia and contribute their wisdom back to the world, rather than take it easy. Her passion now is to do damage to the idea that aging is a downhill slide and a time to rest. It is a time to make a new bucket list and start doing the things on it, to explore new ideas, to be excited and feel youthful regardless of your age!
