Okay, so, my mother left the family when I was 14. It has taken the better part of 15 years to arrive at a place where I accept and embrace my mother as a person. I am finding the profound beauty of having a relationship with my immediate family as friends later in life. For many reasons, this conversation is beautiful and deep, and I learn about my mother in ways I never imagined. 

We talk about van living, her life, her relationship with my father, and the blossoming of a new relationship with each other. 

If you struggle with a relationship with one or both of your parents, I don't offer any tips or advice for you as much as honor and understand the pain of that relationship being strained. It's not easy and you're not alone.
