Caring for others is often a deeply fulfilling journey, yet it can come with significant challenges. Many caregivers frequently find themselves feeling overwhelmed and neglecting their own needs while they focus on those they care for. This is where self-care becomes essential. Mike Collins, a noted advocate for caregiver wellness, has developed a helpful framework called the Five H's: Heart, Head, Health, Home, and Hands. This past summer, 25 out of 29 of my cousins on my Mother's side  gathered in the beautiful family resort of Bertelson Corner out side of Bemidji, Minnesota, for a reunion that will be etched in our memories forever. The sun shone brightly, and laughter filled the air, creating the perfect backdrop for 5 days of fun, games, and family bonding. 

The excitement was palpable as cousins arrived from nearby states and even farther locations, each bringing unique stories and experiences. It was heartwarming to reconnect, reminisce about childhood adventures, and share updates about our lives. This gathering served as a powerful reminder of the strong family ties that bind us together.

First, what is a cataractophile? A cataractophile is a person who loves, appreciates, or is deeply fascinated by waterfalls.

Tennessee is home to some truly breathtaking waterfalls that draw in adventurers and nature lovers. Among these passionate explorers are Anne and Patty, two childhood best friends and self-proclaimed cataractophiles on a quest to uncover the hidden gems of the Volunteer State. With a sense of adventure and some cozy Airbnbs along the way, they set out through the lush landscapes, eager to discover the enchanting waterfalls that grace the area.

The Douro River, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, flows through Portugal’s stunning landscapes, known for its terraced vineyards and breathtaking beauty. It is here that Mary and Dave Isadore set off on an extraordinary river cruise. Their passion for adventure and culture shines throughout their journey in the heart of Portugal, where Port wine tradition thrives.

Upon returning to Kerrville, Texas, Mary and Dave found a dramatic contrast to the striking landscapes of Portugal. Where they have woven their love for music into this charming town. Mary and Dave actively participate in the local orchestra, injecting vibrancy into Kerrville’s cultural scene.
