  • Localizing Life360 for 100 Million Users with Joaquín Muñoz
When your app tells a parent their daughter got home from school, a clumsy translation is a reason to stop trusting the product. In this episode of The Agile Localization Podcast, recorded live at LocWorld56 Vancouver, host Stefan Huyghe sits down with Joaquín Muñoz, Head of Localization at Life360, to talk about localizing a high-stakes family safety app for a global audience of more than 100 million monthly active users.

    Talk to an expert: https://crowdin.info/4avcwKU

    What You’ll Learn

    • Why moving localization closer to product ideation gives linguists time to define new terms before AI and translators scale them
    • How choosing languages over individual locales can cover far more users for a single budget line
    • What retention data from the Netherlands and Scandinavia reveals about localizing for proficient English speakers
    • Why Life360 switched to informal German and brought in-house language managers back into the workflow
    • How to handle the Swiss case when members of the same family run the app in different languages
    • What it takes sense to pull back from a market where cultural trust in data sharing is low

Joaquín Muñoz is the Head of Localization at Life360, the family safety and location-sharing platform that recently passed 100 million monthly active users. He joined Life360 through its acquisition of Tile, where he was one of the company's original remote employees, and now leads a centralized localization function serving the entire organization. Trained in linguistics with studies in German and Spanish, Joaquín began working as a translator in 1995 and moved into localization in 2000, with past roles helping build Palm's webOS and the Nook e-reader. A self-described language nerd and polyglot, he champions design-driven localization, in-house linguistic expertise, and bringing language decisions into the earliest stages of product development.

  • Why Healthcare Is the Future of Language Services
Fluency gets you in the door, but cultural understanding is what earns trust, and that applies to leadership and sales just as much as translation. In this episode of The Agile Localization Podcast, host Stefan Huyghe sits down with Sean Hopwood, Founder and CEO of Day Translations, to talk about how speaking seven languages shaped his leadership style, what it took to build a remote language company back in 2007, and why healthcare is the industry he’s betting on next.

    • Why Sean believes it’s easier to teach a salesperson localization than the reverse
    • The processes and KPIs that become non-negotiable when growing from 5 employees to 50
    • Why healthcare is the most promising vertical for language services, and how AI tools make large projects affordable

Sean Hopwood is the Founder and CEO of Day Translations, a global language services company he launched in 2007 that now supports organizations across 116 languages with offices in the United States, London, and Japan. Speaking seven languages, including Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, and Chinese, Sean began his career as a translator and interpreter, working at a law firm and at Moffitt Cancer Center. He built Day Translations as a remote-first company long before distributed work became mainstream and has grown it without outside funding. Today, Sean focuses on healthcare and legal language services, leading the company’s compliance efforts across ISO, HIPAA, and SOC 2, and expanding its Day Interpreting app.
