Segment: Phillip Kennedy Johnson - Alien, Superman, Action Comics, Extreme Carnage Alpha, Marvel Zombies: Resurrection

    1. Phillip, congratulations on an incredible year of stories, but also last year’s stories too like Kill a Man and The Last God! Heading into a year of Alien, Symbiotes, and Superman, how do you approach the page with so many universes in mind?
    2. What do you think is the key to the lasting appeal of the Alien franchise? Why has it managed to intrigue audiences on the screen and the page for 4 decades?
    3. We know there is a Star Wars Story group that checks stories, is there an Alien Story group?
    4. On that same note, it was awesome seeing Bishop in the first issue of Alien. Were there any characters that you were told were off-limits?
    5. What is the collaboration process like with Salvador Larroca?
    6. Headlining Extreme Carnage Alpha, can you talk a little bit about this project, are you the ringleader so to speak?
    7. Do you have a favorite Symbiote?
    8. I’m not a betting man, but you must have pondered what an Alien vs. Symbiote story would look like. Or for that matter, a mega alien battle between Superman, Alien, and Carnage?  Who do you have coming out on top?
    9. Are there any other projects you’d like to discuss or plug today?

Segment: Ibrahim Moustafa Interview - Count at Humanoids - Out March 16 - Letters by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou - Colors by Brad Simpson

    1. Congratulations on Count, how has the reception been since its release on March 16?
    2. The Count of Monte Cristo is a classic - how did you arrive on the idea to retell this story with science fiction? Did the concept of a Monte Cristo adaptation come to you first, or the high-flying action scenes.
    3. There are many different characters in this work, do you do anything special to get into character, like speak out loud in voices, or write evil characters left-handed (joking!)?
    4. The relationship between mentor and student is heartfelt and real. What did you seek to accomplish first and foremost with these characters?
    5. I was curious about the format and length allowed to you via the graphic novel format. Would this story work as 6 20-page single issues, or was this the only way to tell this story?
    6. The use of color and lettering is exceptional in this work too. What was the process like working with Hassan Otsmmane-Elhaou and Brad Simpson?
    7. Without giving anything away, there are some fascinating untold stories hidden in the margins here, with Redxan and Amai’s relationship being one of them. Do you feel like there are more tales to tell in this world?
    8. There have been many adaptations of The Count of Monte Cristo, who would you want as your Edmond Dantes (Redxan Samud) in the adaptation of Count?
    9. Ibrahim, this is your first of three Humanoids projects lined up. Can you tell us anything about the second collection, might it be an adaptation, something original, and/or sci-fi?
    10. Are there any other books you’d like to discuss today?
    11. Last question, and this is totally for my (Nathan) benefit as a James Bond nerd: favorite on-screen Bond and why?

    1. Thanks for coming on the AIPT Comics podcast! The Good Asian is out this May and Nathan and I can’t be any more excited, in part because we adore Film Noir. Can you talk about your relationship to noir and why the genre speaks to you?
    2. What was the onus on kicking off this project, was it the genre, the Chinese Exclusion Act and how it fit into the story, something else?
    3. Was there anything you were surprised by or that Alexandre Tefenkgi went above and beyond with?
    4. How do you approach staying creative while quarantined? Do you have a set routine?
    5. The Good Asian is rooted deep in American history, but it also reads like a classic noir. What led you to combining the two? - i think we covered this.
    6. From hard-boiled dialogue to shadowy street corners, what do you think is the key to creating the right atmosphere for noir? Color artist lee loughridge
    7. It’s clear that a lot of research went into telling this story. Did you discover anything in your research that genuinely surprised you?
    8. Something that made reading the first issue of The Good Asian so strong for me, was how it captures a lo tof the hidden American history we don’t talk about. If readers wanted to explore more about this kind of history, do you have any resources fans might pick up?
    9. There are so many great indie publishers today, more than ever, what made Image Comics the right fit for this project?

    1. Congratz on Shadowman, I understand speaking to Dennis Hopeless (twice now on this podcast!) Shadowman has been in the works for some time?
    2. At this point it’s safe to say you’re a horror maestro, with Harrow County as just one of your works that’s a shoe in for classic, you have Eden at AfterShock coming in May, how has writing great horror for so long shaped your vision of Shadowman?

    9. Your Punk Mambo miniseries was a blast - any chance we’ll be seeing her turn up in the near future?
    10. You've been making comics for many years, congratz on that, if this were a 100 meter dash, where are you now, what were your record-beating moments (still on the metaphor), and what goals do you see yourself at 75, 95, and 100 meters?
