    ____________

    ABOUT OUR GUEST:
Dr. Mike Mew is a leading British orthodontist known for his innovative approach to improving dental alignment and facial structure simultaneously and naturally. He is a leading pioneer in the field of Orthotropics, a specialty spearheaded by his father, Professor John Mew. Orthotropics flips traditional orthodontic methods on their head by stimulating the natural development of the jaw and facial structure to make room for the teeth instead of performing extractions or other dental reduction procedures. Central to Dr. Mew's practice is the "mewing" technique, named after him. Mewing is a simple, non-invasive practice involving correct tongue positioning against the roof of the mouth, proper jaw alignment, and improved body posture. This technique aims to reshape the face to function optimally, aiming for both aesthetic enhancement and better health outcomes.

He stresses the fact that we want to 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐲, and that there are a variety of ways to do so, as “𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐰 𝐢𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞”!

✅ Orthodontics can do more than straighten teeth; it can 𝐞𝐧𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞! 👅

✅ 𝐀𝐏 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐀𝐞𝐲! 🀔 Don't just focus on side-to-side; front-to-back movement matters for tongue space and relieving mandibular entrapment.

✅ Consider extraction reversal! 😮 Reopening spaces from extractions can dramatically improve airway function and resolve sleep apnea.

✅ 𝐍𝐚𝐧-𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐭 is essential! 🙅‍♀ Avoid pulling teeth backward, as it reduces tongue space and can lead to TMJ issues.

✅ Learn the importance of the 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞.

✅ Think 𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲! 💖 Combine orthodontics with myofunctional therapy and consider surgery when needed for optimal airway and overall health.

✅ It can be a 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐱 𝐭𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐲𝐚𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐲 during sleep! 🛌

✅ There are 𝐭𝐰𝐚 𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐟 𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐊: tonic and phasic 💪

✅ 𝐇𝐚𝐊𝐞 𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬 can miss the real issues; an in-lab study with a PES might be needed! 🧪

✅ 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐲 can improve bruxism, but watch out for night guards that can make it worse! 🪲

✅ If your dentist sees dental wear, you might be a bruxer, even if you don't know it! More 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬, 𝐬𝐲𝐊𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐊𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 are also discussed🊷
