Akron U Installs Nap PodsCause, like, you know.... I have anxiety. It's nice to see the University getting our young people ready to join the workforce. It's like a couch with a ball that you stick your head into. The nap pods were purchased by a Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Funds grant through the Ohio Department of Higher Education to support behavioral health on college campuses.
Too bad that money wasn't used to make education more affordable.

I went to Lock 3 this weekend and I have to tell you it was wonderful. I'm not sure what I expected besides no parking or expensive parking, but the whole day was wonderful.
I also discovered lock 4 which has more small theater stages. It was lovely. If you haven't gone down yet, you should as they are going to begin renovating it (which makes it should like it will be more like a park with trees) see further Development Plans.

A person using the name Madonna has organized the Freedom Tailight Project.
“Jayland Walker was pulled over for (an equipment violation) and ended up dead,” said lead organizer Madonna, who uses that name in protesting spaces for her safety and privacy. “We know that can happen to anybody. More often it happens to Black and brown and Indigenous folks because that’s statistically shown, and we know poorer communities are disproportionately policed compared to affluent, white neighborhoods.”
The group raised about $250 through CashApp donations at $FreedomTailPro. Funds were used to purchase bulbs for headlights, license plate lights and taillights, all of which could constitute a traffic stop if burned out. Volunteers also used tape for cracked lights to make them street legal.
Madonna said Freedom Taillight Project plans to host an event each month until the weather gets too cold, at which point they will raise funds for the spring. The goal, she said, is to establish a nonprofit and bank account for any groups nationwide that wants to hold similar clinics.
“A lot of people are approaching the racial justice fight from a lot of different angles,” Madonna said. “This is just another way of doing that.

While neighborhoods like Goodyear Heights canceled their nights out celebrations due to safety concerns, the night went off without a hitch (at least that I can see)

Teenagers with UzisA 17-year-old male teen was arrested Saturday night and five guns were seized by Akron police in an incident that involved a crowd becoming aggressive and making threats to officers, police reported.
The police department's Gun Violence Response Team stopped what they called a suspicious vehicle in front of a home in the 1400 block of Minson Way, in the Joy Park area in the East Akron neighborhood, just before 11:30 p.m.
Police said they saw what appeared to be Uzi and AK-47 rifles in the open trunk of a vehicle that had five occupants, all teens between ages 15 and 18.
As they detained the occupants, police said a large crowd formed around the officers and became aggressive and made threats, with officers calling for backup.
Four of the five teens were not charged and released. The 17-year-old, whose name was not released, was arrested and charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of weapons under disability after two handguns were found in the front seat with or near him, police said

Ohio's sales tax holiday is coming. And that means summer is coming to a close and kids will soon be going back to school. The state's tax-free weekend for school supplies will be from Aug. 5 to Aug. 7 this year. The sales tax rates across northern Ohio range from 6.75% to a high of 8% in Cuyahoga County. The tax break will be for school supplies and some clothing purchases.
Here are the basic rules of what will be exempt from sales tax: An item of clothing priced at $75 or less. An item of school supplies priced at $20 or less. An item of school instructional material priced at $20 or less. The Ohio Department of Taxation notes that items that are typically used for trade or a business are not exempt.
The state has a wide definition of what it considers to be clothing eligible for the tax break, and some of the items — like a wedding dress as long as it is under the $75 threshold — might surprise you.

Ohio State Fair reveals record 2,530-pound butter sculpturesThe Ohio State Fair went back to its roots with this year’s butter cow display, using 2,530 pounds of the dairy product — the most ever — to create the traditional cow and calf and, for the first time, a life-size pig, chicken and lamb. This year’s display is intended to highlight the agricultural roots of the state fair, which opens Wednesday and runs through Aug. 7.
The sculpting team spent 600 hours working on the display, 500 of which were spent on sculpting alone.
The sculpting team began on July 9, first building steel frames of the figures before moving on to work with the butter, which Brooke said isn’t much different than using clay.
The fair runs July 27 - August 7

Reward $15,000 for Information on Pizza ShootingThere is now a total of 15,000 for information on a pizza delivery driver shooting.
He was attempting to make a delivery after 10 p.m. on Grace Avenue in West Akron on July 15. Suddenly, several teens or young men came out of an abandoned house. Others came from behind the house and the group demanded the pizza worker's car, according to the victim. Instead, the driver chucked the pizza at someone holding a shotgun and tried to run away. "They didn't ask for money or nothing like that. They just wanted my car and when I was unable to give that to them, his friend said, 'Blast him,'" the victim recounted. "I started like sprinting down the driveway and that's when he fired his gun and hit me in the back." The victim, who was treated at Summa Akron City Hospital, was unable to get good descriptions of the suspects. No one has been arrested. With the suspects still on the run, there is added concern for other delivery drivers from both police and pizza shops.
