Welcome to Alice Cares.
You might have noticed a couple of changes to the podcast.
1) New cover artwork! Don't Deb and Helen look lovely?!
2) The podcast will now be monthly - out on the second Monday of each month.
Today you're hearing from not just Deb and Helen but also Josie who has just joined the team as Grant and Fundraising manager.
Josie started as a volunteer at the end of last year and tells Deb and Helen why Alice means so much to her.
You'll also get to hear what Deb and Helen have been up which includes Helen arguing with a man online who "doesn't believe in poverty'

The team at Alice has been growing recently and one of the new people to join is Kelly.
She's the new Administration Apprentice, although she's not a total newbie to the charity because she volunteered with them a few years ago before having her little boy.
Kelly joins Deb and Helen to talk about what she's doing and how being part of the team is already changing her life.

This week Deb and Helen are talking about the work they do as part of the family support team.
Remember despite Deb trying to give herself the promotion most weeks it's Helen who is the boss.
Like many of us, they've both been spending the last few weeks catching up from the Christmas rush!

One of the ways Alice Charity supports families in North Staffordshire is through Bump and Beyond.
You won't be surprised to find out Bump and Beyond is all about looking new mums, making sure expecting a child is the special time it should be for everybody.
But this can't be done without your help and support as Deb and Helen explain.

It's no secret that the team at Alice love a certificate. And in this episode of Alice Cares Deb and Helen are talking about some of the latest training they've been on.
Training is an important part of working at Alice. It's not just about qualifications though, it's about making sure everybody is the best they can be.
As always there are jokes along the way and today Deb invents yet another new word, but there's no certificate for that.

Today you get to hear from another member of the Alice team - it's Dani who looks after Big Cup.
Her and Deb chat about what goes on at Big Cup and Dani reveals exactly how much help Deb used to be during her time there!
Big Cup is a free community play group for parents, babies and toddlers. Big Cup helps new families to overcome isolation by bringing them together with regular parent and toddler play groups across Newcastle & Stoke.
More often than not it involves messy play!

Welcome to the 54th week of January or at least that's what it feels like doesn't it?
Christmas has wiped out the People's Pantry at Alice Charity so Helen and Deb are asking you to go through your cupboards and see what you've got that you can spare. In fact they reckon it's a fantastic way to make sure that diet of yours stays on track - get rid of those calorie filled tins and boxes! Win Win.
You'll also hear about the weird foods the pair like to eat themselves.
Dog biscuits for tea anybody? Don't worry the People's Pantry won't be giving out dog biscuits to feed families...

A new trainee scheme is starting. It's a three year scheme and it's based on how Helen and Deb started at Alice.
In this episode you'll hear what it's like working at Alice, what you gain from being in the office and the particular qualities you need to get on well in the team. Here's a clue - you'll need to be good at making a brew!

Happy New Year!
Deb and Helen are starting the new year looking back on what happened in 2019 and planning their resolutions (or lack of) for 2020.
The office is reopening today (Monday 6th January) but there's still a lot of post Christmas shenanigans to clear up after!

Ho Ho Ho!
It's the last few days before Christmas and it's been a ridiculously busy few weeks for the team.
The number of families asking for help at the People's Pantry is up and there's been a number of walk ins to the office too.
Neither Helen or Deb are ready for their own Christmas celebrations but they are both looking forward to a bit of a break!
There'll be no episode next week but the team will be back ready for the new year on 6th January!
