Founded in 1992 by Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, the Innocence Project works to free the innocent, prevent wrongful convictions, and create fair, compassionate, and equitable systems of justice for everyone.

Alicia Cepeda Maule is the Innocence Project’s first Digital Engagement Director. Since 2015 she led the organization in exponential audience growth, revenue, and advocacy including campaigns that helped stop the execution of Pervis Payne and Rodney Reed. Prior, Alicia worked in digital for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign and msnbc.com. She has a B.A. in Africana Studies from Brown University.

Barry Scheck is is a co-founder and director of the Innocence Project as well as a professor at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law of Yeshiva University. He has also served as the president of National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in the past and has taught legal ethics, forensic science and trial practice to law students, attorneys and judges. Scheck is a recipient of National Trial Lawyers Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also received New York State Bar Association gold medal.
