  • A Special Collaboration With Ravens and Writing Desks - Skinamarink

In a very special extra episode this week, Andrew and Kevin collaborate with our friend Jax over at Ravens & Writing Desks to watch Skinamarink!

We've never done a full collaboration before so we thought it would be an excellent chance to give it a go. Jax was kind enough to run the show and this video is also posted over on her channel, so if you found us from her page, THANK YOU!!!

If you enjoy this video at all, please head over to HER page and give it a follow and see some of the great interviews she's done, especially now that it's spooky season and she tends to work with some great gothic horror authors.

Of course the main focus of this episode is the film Skinamarink and the general consensus is, well... it''s a film... There is at least a little variety on reception and definitely some quality discussion about what this film means in the larger picture of horror films in general.

If you enjoyed our talk with Jax and want to get more involved, we listed her YouTube channel above, but you can also find her here:

  • 161. A24 Horror, Ahsoka, Dear Child, and '80s Movies Or Did Kevin Watch Everything?

This week the guys cover Ahsoka, A swath of A24 horror films, Several '80s movies, Dear Child, and more!

Kevin had a lot of time on his hands with the week off and he seemingly watched everything under the sun. He kicks off the show talking about the horror classic, Rosemary's Baby. Oddly enough, as it will eventually lead into talk about other A24 films, but Rosermary's Baby has a very modern day A24 feel to it.

Next up the guys jump into Ahsoka, primarily episode 5 and all of the deep history it brings in. They talk about the redemption of Hayden Christensen as Anakin and what this all means for the show now and going forward. Next up, Kevin goes into his A24 rant talking about several A24 modern classics such as, The WItch, Men, The Blackcoat's Daughter, Saint Maud, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, and Under the Skin

For once he makes it relatively brief, despite all the content and gets the ball back to Andrew to dicuss the first season of Foundation, which we are hoping to have a full episod on in the next few weeks!

The guys then finish up with a quick list of what's to come and then finish with an old school PSA on how men should be better.

As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! Also, leave us comments and let is know how we are doing and what we can be doing better. Enjoy the episode and have a great week!

  • 160. You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah & Strays Or Have Kevin and Jen Seen Anything?

This week it's just Kevin and Jen and they get into the new raunchy canine comedy Strays, as well as the new Sandler flick, You are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah.

Jen kicks it off talking about Strays, which sounds like a very adult good time. For what it's worth, it sounds like it maybe isn't quite as good as No Hard Feelings, but Jen was laughing the whole time, so that's not the worst thing.

Kevin then jumps into his usual rant about bad movies and this week covers the XXX franchise starring Vin Diesel and Ice Cube. He then goes deeper down the bad fil hole and talks about the abomination that is The Spirit. Oof...

Next up they get into "Adam Sandler's" next movie, You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah. You'll understand the quotes when you watch the episode, but it's for a reason! Also, the Sandler kids are great!

The show finishes with some discussion about upcoming horror films and the plethora of films at least one of the two has missed over the years.

As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! Also, leave us comments and let is know how we are doing and what we can be doing better. Enjoy the episode and have a great week!

  • 159. Ahsoka, Rebel Moon, The Flash, and The Hustle, Or Did Kevin Give Affleck Props?!?

This week Kevin and Andrew stay relevant for at least half the show, talking about the Rebel Moon trailer, The Flash, Ahsoka, and more. Of course Kevin derails that a bit with a few older shows, but what can you do with this guy?

The guys start off talking about the new Rebel moon trailer. This is Zach Snyder's "Star Wars" movie and it's very Snyder-y. If that's your jam, you might be excited about it. If you are Kevin, maybe not so much...

This leads Kevin into talking about The Flash which just dropped on HBO Max this week. Despite his expectations, he didnt like the film as much as Andrew. That said, and despite his not so glowing review of it, he didnt hate it, either.

Next up, Kevin passes the baton of garbage films to Andrew who doesn't walk but absolutely sprints with it, having watched Showgirls this week. Despite sex appeal of Jessie Spannow, the film holds up as well as expected, which is to say, it does not.

Kevin steers the ship back to right after a slow start talking about the 2009 disaster film, 2012, but then picks up with a discussion of the Gerard Butler film, Greenland. Despite his comments about Mr Butler last week, this film was actually decent and elicits the rare apology from Kevin and his immense ego.

The guys then finish off the show with the big ticket item, Ahsoka. It's the latest Star Wars offering from Disney+ and Kevin is incredibly excited for it. Andrew was lukewarm on it before watching it. Did he come around? Watch and find out!

  • 158. Blue Beetle, The Pope's Exorcist, and Foundation Or Are Kevin And Andrew Swifties?!?

The guys are back this week to talk about The Pope's Exorcist, Blue Beet'e, Foundation, and (sadly) Geostorm. Stay til the end, too, as Andrew gets a little deep on what vibe is defining the modern generation and then a discussion on... Taylor Swift?!?

Kevin starts off talking about The Pope's Exorcist which is currently available on Netflix. If horror is your jam and you like the "based on a true story" genre, definitely give it a watch.

Next up, Andrew talks about Blue Beetle which just landed in theaters this week. Sadly, it's doing poorly at the box office but it SHOULD be doing great! If you need something to do this weekend, go see it!

Kevin takes over at the end to talk about the Apple TV sci-fi epic, Foundation. After talking to Kim, he realized that this show has many parallels to Game of Thrones so if that was your jam, give it a shot.

Kevin then closes the show by talking about the disaster of a disaster film, Geostorm. Yeah, it's really not good. Like... at all... And of course there isn one last discussion about the Fast and the Furious franchise.

  • 157. Twisted Metal, Heart of Stone, and Poisoned Or Is Andrew Plotting Something...?

This week Andrew and Kevin jump into the new Twisted Metal series on Peacock, Heart of Stone on Netflix, and 2 documentaries on Netflix, Poisoned and How to Become a Tyrant.

Kevin meant to talk Twisted Metal last week but completely forgot so he makes up for it this week by getting into it. It came as a pretty rave review, so enjoy that.

Next up Andrew discusses the new food documentary on Netflix, Poisoned. Despite his new affinity for become a cult leader or tyrant, this isn't a way for him to take over the world. Or is it...? But it does lead to a good discussion about food safety in general. And if there's one thing our guys are big on, it's safety!!

Next up Kevin talks about the new Gal Gadot joint over on Netflix, Heart of Stone. It's a very Mission Impossible-esque tale, but lacking some of the overall energy that MI has. But if you like pretty things... Gal and Jamie Dornan are exactly that.

Andrew finishes off with another video that may be starting to show us his final form. How to Become a Dictator is over on Peacock and it's more of what made How to Become a Cult Leader great, but arguably does it better.

  • 156. Oppenheimer, How to Become A Cult Leader (Redux) or All Pop And SOME Culture?

This week the group talks Oppenheimer. How to Become A Cult Leader, Super Mario Bros., and the Fast and Furious franchise. But wait!!! Yes, that is a new face you spy! Andrew brings his friend Salony on for this episode and, much like Jen(ny) and Kim, she brings some actual culture to this ragtag bunch.

We kick off the episode with a get to know you session. Salony is, as they all are, a former classmate of everyone else but Kevin (what a bum, right?). It doesn't take long to see that Salony is a deep thinker and is into some really interesting stuff!

Once the guys finally learn everything there is to learn about Salony, she and Andrew discuss Oppenheimer. They both liked the movie enough, but there is a slightly different take from each one, which is great for this show!

Next up, Kevin and Andrew take a deeper run at How to Become a Cult Leader, since they actually completed the show this week. They both found it very interesting and entertaining. Salony, while not having seen it, has some interesting insights as she actually took a class on cults in college!

Kevin then briefly talks on the new Super Mario Bros. movie which is now streaming on Peacock. After that, he dives into the muddled world of the Fast and Furious franchise. He's been watching the series with his boys and he has some feelings on this deries!

  • 155. They Cloned Tyrone, How to Become a Cult Leader, & Secret Invasion

This weeks episode kickas off with They Cloned Tyrone, followed by How to Become a Cult Leader, and ends with the Secret Invasion Finale.

Watch in real time as Kevin slowly convinces Andrew that They Cloned Tyrone is better than he thought it was. Is it hypnosis or does he maybe have the skills to Become a Cult Leader? (See what I did there?) Andrew runs through the general premise of the show and why it's more fascinating (and fun) than it should be.

Next up Kevin talks quickly about the latest couple of episodes of Star Trek Strange New Worlds and and Andrew delivers a heartfelt apology to all the SNW fans out there.

The guys then discuss the much maligned finale of Secret Invasion and the series overall. This inevitably leads to a discussion about the future of the MCU and then, of course, to the future of the DCU. They are so predictable!!

  • 154. Barbie And Strange New Worlds Or Pete Loves The Golden Bachelor

This week is a full house and the gang covers the new Barbie movie and Start Trek Strange New Worlds. Is that all? Absolutley not!! What else did they cover? A whole lot!

Of course they start off with a discussion of The Bear because how could they not? Pete talks Minx, Heels, and The After Party really quick before Jen(ny) and Andrew (what?!?) talk Barbie. Its a surprisingly good review from both.

After Pete is done defending the 2015 Jem and the Holograms movie, he talks about Daisy Jones and the Six. Jen(ny) then talks on Elemental very briefly. Short story long, she enjoyed it and you should watch it at some point!

Next up, Jen(ny) took the opportunity to see the film, The Sound of Freedom and, politics aside, she enjoyed the film. That does lead to a distinctly un-APNC chat about religion before the gang settles back into their normal lack of decorum and talks about Kevin Smith's Dogma.

This finally leads the gang to a larger Trek discussion, though the intention was to focus on Strange New Worlds. Who knew the would struggle to stay on topic?!? After that, the finish the show talking about some of the new shows and films coming out. In another shocking twist, Pete is disturbingly excited for The Golden Bachelor. Are you surprised? We're not...

  • 153. Secret Invasion, Evil Dead, and The Bear Or Is Battleship A Good Movie? Hint: No...

This is a busy one! There's Secret Invasion, Evil Dead, The Bear, The Brit Marling-Verse, and even the 2012 film, Battleship. First, though, the guys talk Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Andrew has been away and Kevin had no one to actually discuss this this fantastic film with so Andrew allows him a bit of an outlet. After that, it's a wild roller coaster ride of interesting television and movies and some really bad stuff, before a quick taste of what's to come when the team can actually deep dive into The Bear!

About All Pop, No Culture

From the publisher's feed

Our first 81 episodes are what we now consider APNC 1.0 with our original crew: Opie, Pete, Kevin, Alex, and later, David. Through the onset of COVID and life changes, the podcast began to evolve. It was the end of an era, but we loved this crew and the memories we made. You'll notice that our earliest episodes are not on YouTube. The addition of video was never in the plans, but came to life as a surprise side effect of COVID.
