Welcome to another episode of All Pop, No Culture! This episode is shorter than usual because it's not our usual episode! In fact, it's just bonus material from last episode! That's right, we intended to end last episode right where we did, but then ended up talking for way too long!
This turned out to be kismet because Kevin came down with COVID right before the usual recording night so the gang took the night off and we decided to use this content instead! The episode kicks off with some reminiscing about childhood and then becomes a history lesson in growing up in Canada.
We eventually get on topic and talk about the best (and worst) films of the MCU. Kevin and Leah have surprisingly similar lists at both the top and the bottom. The gang then moves on to some classic DC films before landing on the fate Ezra Miller and his Flash film...
As always, thanks for watching. Despite being a bit of stolen material, this one was a lot of fun and we hope you enjoy it. As always, don't forget to like and subscribe and share with all of your friends! Enjoy the episode and we'll see you next time!
This week, the guys bring on Leah, who has been one if our biggest supporters and has known Andrew since middle school. What's absolutely bonkers is that they haven't seen each other in decades! That doesnt stop the show from flowing, though.
We kick off the show by talking about Superstore and TV comedies as we get to know Leah and find out what her tastes in entertainment lean toward. Hint: it's comedy. After that, the gang gets into discussing Beef on Netflix, the new series starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong. There is a surprising range on opinions here, so look forward to that.
After that Kevin takes the reins for a bit and talks about the new slasher flick, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. Was it good? What do you think...? He then goes on to review a couple of new shows, The Night Agent and Rabbit Hole. Both have a 24-esque feel, but one is better than the other, for sure.
As always, we hope you enjoy the show. Give Leah lot's of love this week for making it on to her fist ever podcast! Don't forget to like and subscribe if you haven't already and share, share, share! Enjoy the episode!
Welcome to another first for the APNC crew. First off, there's 5 of us for the first time in a long time! Second, this is the first ever D&D game played on the show. First, though, the gang sits down and talks about the new film, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves! Much like the overall critical reviews, the group really enjoyed the film and it's a marked improvement over the last D&D film debacle.
After the review, the game gets rolling. This is a first or second game for the majority of the group, so do not expect Critical Role here. That said, this is a great way to see how the game is played and some of the trials and tribulations that newcomers would experience. Will our team be victorious on our little quest or will we fail? It's up to the dice!!
As always, thank you for watching. This one was a new and different kind of fun so we hope you enjoy watching us learn and fumble. As always, don't forget to like and subscribe and share, share, share!! Enjoy the show and we'll see you next week!
As is so often the case, Kevin has no friends. But, like, ZERO. So you get him in his diminished state rambling on about '80s horror. But this is moments for him, so just play along. Horror is a hot topic on this show and someone of Kevin's age has no excuse for these holes in his watch history. He buckled down this week and watches the first 2 films in all 3 major horror franchises of the '80s, Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Nightmare on Elm Street. He'll break down each of the 6 films and let you know which of the series is his favorite, now that he has actually earned an opinion on the matter! Next up he gets modern with a more recent slasher-adjacent flick, The Rental. This is the directorial debut of Dave Franco and is a solid flick. Kevin then quickly reviews The Knock at the Cabin, which has been reviewed by Jen and Andrew already so not much time is spent there. He finally finishes off with It Follows, an artsy, moody horror flick the has sex ghosts. Awesome!! As always, thank you for watching. The solo episodes are rare but we hope you enjoy it. Next episode should be something new and exciting for everyone! Enjoy your week, kids and don't forget to like, subscribe, and share!
We have an awesome episode for you this week. Before jumping into the meat of the show, Andrew breaks down not only Creed 3, but the entire franchise and its ties to Rocky as well. Once he finishes that review, he gives a much shorter and very different review of Shazam 3. After that, we get to the main course, and that is The Last of Us, Season 1. but it's not enough for just Kevin and Andrew to talk about it, they need an expert. There is no one Kevin respects more on the subject than former APNC co-host Alex, so Kevin picked up the Bat Phone and rang him up!! This is a great reunion and Andrew's first chance to sit down and talk with Alex. It's a great meeting for the two of them and a great opportunity for our audience to get the perspective of someone who has never played the game (Andrew) and a couple of people who have played it many times. There is a lot of knowledge shared here so if you loved the show, and whether you've played the game or not, there is a lot to drink in. Yes, it's a longer episode, but well worth it if you enjoyed The Last of Us. Obviously a HUGE thanks to our special guest this week, Alex. He was great to have on and we hope to have him back again sometime soon. To all of our regular viewers, thank you watching. To our new viewers, ALSO thank you for watching but don't forget to like and subscribe! We hope you enjoy this episode and we'll see you next week!
This week has Kim, Andrew, and Kevin back in the saddle. The show kicks off with some idle chit chat, discussing video games and their potential television adaptations following the success of The Last of Us. Next up the gang digs into some sci-fi chat and Kevin and Andrew preach the gospel of Battlestar Galactica to Kim. This leads to a deeper dive into slow burn shows like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. The Kevin switches gears and talks about the new sitcom Animal Control on Fox. Andrew then gives his semi-spoilery review of Scream VI. He gives it a fairly glowing review but it's so scary that Kim has to leave. Ok, she actually has parental duties, but saying she was scared works better here, so we can pretend. After Kim exits for better prospects, Kevin and Andrew take advantage and FINALLY get into season 3 of Picard. We're at episode 4 already so they've been chomping at the bit to discuss. Their review is overwhelmingly positive, so if you haven't watched yet, get on it! As has been the case for the last several weeks, the episode finished on a The Last of Us discussion. This week, the guys cover the penultimate episode of season 1. Much like Picard, they loved this one, too. As Kevin predicted last week, folks were not ready for this episode and he was 100% correct!! As a bonus, after the credits roll on Episode 137, Kevin and Andrew have a spirited discussion about Attack on Titan. Kevin is officially a convert and they talk is very deep, exploring all of the subtle intricacies of the show up to this point. If you have watched or are interesting watching, this conversation is for you! As always, thank you for watching. We had a lot of fun this week so we hope that comes across the inter webs here. Don't forget to like and subscribe if you haven't and share on all of your social platforms, even if your friends have. Spread us around like delicious peanut butter!! Enjoy the episode and have a great week!!
Welcome to another episode of All Pop, No Culture! It seems like every week we do something a little different. This week we have Jen AND Kim on, marking the largest number of females... wait... girls... wait... WOMEN (that joke will land way harder if you watch all the way to the end of the episode...) than we've ever had on the show at one time. We are now officially feminists AND we are dropping this episode on International Women's Day. The episode with a far too chatty Kevin passing the torch to Jen and Kim to discuss the new Magic Mike film and the series overall. They have a lot of solid opinions on the film and actually a ton of praise. Kevin and Andrew certainly have their questions, but the ladies run the show here and it's fantastic! As the show rolls on they discuss Knock at the Cabin, Cocaine Bear, The Lincoln Lawyer, and trashy television, including Love is Blind, Love Island, and How to Build a Sex Room. Before getting to The Last of Us, Kevin and Andrew discuss Attack on Titan briefly and Kevin talks about The Consultant on Amazon Prime. The show finishes, as it has for the last several weeks, on The Last of Us. This week's episode, Left Behind, is a great one and sparks some very interesting discussions around who would end up on which side of the fight for freedom in this post apocalyptic world. As always, thank you for watching. We hope you enjoyed this episode. Don't forget to like and subscribe if you haven't already. Share with your friends. Tell them to share. I believe I forgot to add the credits this episode so a big shoutout to our usual awesome supporters Leah, Katy, Stephanie, and Jesus!!
Welcome to another episode! This week we have a special guest, Andrew's friend Chad from his time in Chicago. Chad is a born fide pop culture expert with a great knowledge of comic book, horror, and film lore. The episode goes through getting to know Chad before Kevin derails that with talk about Phase 4 of the MCU. It's a very good conversation with Andrew playing the opposing voice in the conversation. It's spirited but not confrontational, so very eye opening! Next up, the guys dig into Chad's horror roots. This leads to a great discussion about the genre in film in general. It gives Kevin and Andrew a quick chance to talk about their Conjuring franchise watch and leads nicely into the weekly The Last of Us discussion. The talk then circles back to more superhero discussions before we get into finding out more about Chad's time as a DJ in Chicago. We find out a lot about his time creating mix tapes and then learn about the documentary film he's working on about the Chicago hip hop scene. As always, thank you for watching. This episode was a ton of fun and Chad is an awesome guest. We can't wait to get him back on again. For now, though, don't forget to like and subscribe and share us on Facebook, Twitter, and anywhere else you share cool things with your cool friends. Enjoy the show and we'll see you next week!! Welcome to another episode!! It's just Kevin and Andrew this week but that doesn't mean there isn't anything to cover! The episode kicks off with Kevin going over a couple of Paramount Plus offerings. First up is the latest Tyler Sheridan project, Tulsa King. It's a Stallone led project but it's off to a great start. Next up no the streamer is Picard season 3. It's only the first episode so Kevin tries to stay as spoiler free as possible, but does talk about the things that make this a very solid first episode. Finally he skips over to HBO and quickly talks about how Velma may not be THAT bad. Next up, the guys get into their Conjuring universe watch. First up is The Curse of La Llarona and suffice it to say, the guys pretty much agree with the world consensus: this movie is not very good. They follow that up with Annabelle Comes Home. This one divides the guys just a little, but it's definitely a better film than La Llarona. Next up is the big chunk of the episode, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Both guys saw it, so this gets spoiler heavy, so be warned! Unlike the critics of the world, the guys thoroughly enjoy this film and they have a lot to discuss and share. As the guys try to end the show, they suck themselves into a chat about what's coming in March, which leads to a discussion about the upcoming Flash movie. There's a lot of discussion about the impact of Ezra's behavior vs the appearance of Keaton's Batman. As always, thank you for watching! We appreciate all of the support we've been getting lately so thanks for sharing! Please keep it up and tell your friends to share it also! We'll be back again next week with a special guest and more Last of Us talk!
This might be consecutive weeks with Pete, but more importantly, Andrew is back. He was absent last week for SOME reason (who's a sleepy boy), but he's back now, as you will see right out of the gate. This week kicks off quickly, after Andrew plugs some future shows, with his defense of Velma. Admittedly Kevin has not watched much of it, but the debate over what makes this show any kind of good is solid banter. Kevin Takes over in an attempt to be quick. He talks about the new release of the Dead Space remake. Short story short there, it's badass and everyone should play it. In what should have been an even shorter story, Kevin also brings up the new game, Hogwart's Legacy. This turns into a philosophical tangent that is definitely worth listening to. Finally they get into their Conjuring watchlist and discover Annabelle Creation and The Nun. Both of these films are decent horror films but are slowly slipping down the list in the franchise. They seem to suffer from the diminishing returns that all horror franchises have over time. They also discuss the film The Taking of Deborah Logan, a semi-found footage film that has some very problematic issues, but isn't the worst film ever either. Finally, we get to the part you are paying for (you are paying, right??) which is The Last of Us. Andrew gets a chance to throw in his 2 cents around episode 3 before everyone jumps into episodes 4 and 5. As one might guess, the guys love the show. That being said, Kevin does have one complaint to share about this show and game he loves. As always, thank you for watching. We had a lot of fun this week and we hope it's evident. Next week should bring a heavy discussion about the new Ant Man film, which should be fun. Don't forget to like and subscribe and set up notifications. If you see us on Twitter (@APNCPodcast) or Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/apncpodcast), please share so we can continue to grow. We've had some great viewership lately and we want to keep that going!
