All Redding Podcast

In this powerful episode of the All Redding Podcast, host Griffith Tonkin sits down with law enforcement officer, coach, father, and community leader Camaron Hooks — a man whose life story is nothing short of extraordinary.

Camaron opens up about his turbulent childhood, growing up between multiple cities, homes, and school systems, navigating family addiction, instability, poverty, and violence. From losing housing as a teen… to supporting younger siblings… to escaping the Bay Area in the middle of the night… Camaron's early life was stacked against him.

But his story doesn't end there.

Through faith, friendship, mentorship, and an astonishing amount of grit, Camaron rebuilt his life from the ground up. Today, he serves the Redding community by working directly with youth, bringing compassion, honesty, and lived experience that changes lives.

Whether you're a parent, an educator, a student, or simply someone looking for hope — Camaron's story will leave you thinking long after the episode ends.

What does it take to build champions on the court and in life? In this episode of All Redding, Ky sits down with legendary coach Mike Haworth —the man behind decades of Enterprise High School success and the current CALPAC Coach of the Year at Simpson University. From coaching three sports a year to teaching for 35 years in juvenile hall, Mike shares how relationships, accountability, and relentless learning shaped generations of athletes and leaders across Redding.

You'll hear stories about:

- Growing up on a Navy base and basically living in the gym

- Teaching in juvenile hall and connecting with kids everyone else had given up on

- The 1998 state championship game vs. University High and the Walton kids

- Building a culture where role players love their job and practice is harder than games

- Fighting today's culture of specialization, NIL, and the transfer portal

- Coaching his own daughters, being "dad-coach," and learning the girl-dad emotional game

- How former players became the kind of teammates every business wants to hire

- Why, at 70, it's still so hard for him to even think about walking away

If you're a coach, teacher, parent, or business leader, this conversation is packed with real, hard-earned wisdom on building teams that last, holding people accountable with love, and keeping your passion alive over a lifetime.

Redding isn't just lakes and trails—it's people. In this episode, Joey sits down with Ky Strickler (longtime YMCA leader, coach, and community-builder) to talk about getting our kids—and ourselves—off the screens and back into real, face-to-face community. From three-on-three hoops and school sports to men's groups, fatherhood, faith, and the power of simply showing up, Ky makes the case for "we over me."

They dig into why loneliness is surging, how online anonymity fuels division, and what practical, local steps can reconnect us: youth programs, pick-up games, food-truck meetups, church and club gatherings, and intentional time with friends. If you care about Redding's next generation (and your own sanity), this conversation is a playbook.

What you'll hear:

- Youth, sports, and building resilience through teamwork

- From isolation to involvement: real antidotes to anxiety & division

- Men's friendship, mentorship, and the "Dad Project" idea

- Faith, service, and leading with humility ("we over me")

- Local community touchpoints: 3-on-3 tourneys, food-truck park, Cool April Nights, Rodeo Church
