We have had so many listeners ask us about using flash units with the Sony Alpha system so we went out and found someone who relies on flash photography with the Sony Alpha system for a living who could talk more authoritatively about using flash units with the Sony Alpha system. Juan and Andy got the chance to interview Sony Artisan of Imagery Miguel Quiles about his work and about using flash. We cover a bit of the technical issues and options plus Miguel also shares his knowledge and his approach to his portrait work.

AlphaMirrorless 013: An interview with Gary Arndt the global traveler and photographer

In this episode, Juan and Andy interview Gary Arndt, who in March 2007 sold his house and has been traveling around the world ever since. Since he started traveling he has visited all 7 continents, over 175 countries and territories around the world, all 50 states and every US territory, every Canadian province, every Australian state and territory, over 125 US National Park Service sites and over 300 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

And of course during these travels Gary has made some incredible images from many corners of the globe. His camera system of choice? Of course the Sony Alpha system. Take a listen to this great interview with Gary.

Yes, the Sony Alpha Mirrorless cameras have downloadable apps that can greatly enhance your shooting experience. As of the publishing date of this podcast there are a few dozen apps available that can help you create time lapses, star trails, light painting and much more.

On in this episode of the AlphaMirrorless Juan and Andy talk about this app ecosystem, what some of the apps do and they share with you their favorite apps. They also discuss the Playmemories smartphone app (iPhone and Android) that can be very useful in controlling your camera remotely and sharing your images from the field.

AlphaMirrorless 07: DSLR vs. Mirrorless Part One of MANY!

Photography has gone through so many changes in its relatively short history and each of those changes seems to bring with it fear, uncertainty and doubt. This has happened with the introduction of color to a previously B&W world of photography, it happened when the SLR was introduced, once again when digital started to become a viable option, and lately it seems we are going through the same pains with Mirrorless.

There appears to be a significant amount of misinformation and lack of information about what mirrorless brings to the table. Granted, we’re still in the early days and there is still much growth ahead, but so far these systems have shown great promise.

In this episode Andy and I want to shine some light on the DSLR vs, mirrorless debate while providing truthful, and balanced information while at the same time debunking some of the myths.
