  • 58: Don’t Let FOMO Steal Your Magic

Fear of Missing out (FOMO) can rob you of reaching your potential. Educators want to be great, but when they let FOMO be the reason they make a decision, their kids suffer. Social media, conferences and the latest technology are some examples of areas where teachers rush about like moths to a flame. Tune in to hear how to still be part of what’s hot, but not lose sight of your purpose in the classroom.

    Quotables
    • Stop chasing fads instead of rooting yourself in student achievement
    • Prioritize where you put your time- does this really impact student learning?
    • Your potential is determined by how you let it grow
    • You’ll never be a top notch educator with FOMO as your commander in chief
    • Forget the new shiny objects that swirl around you and stay grounded in what has the biggest impact on kids
    • Your kids are watching- we are shaping the future and if they look to you as a model and see superficial motivations and outcomes, they’re doomed to repeat it

        • 57: When Crisis Creeps into the Classroom

Crisis surrounds us in our communities, and its our duty as educators to bridge the gap from the inside world of the classroom to the outside world of society. We can no longer turn a blind eye to the hate and expect our kids to be prepared to enter that environment and make it a better place. Tune in to hear how you can be part of the solution.

          Quotables
          • Develop our children to be the best version of themselves so they can go out in the world and make an impact
          • Ignoring the problem is not working
          • These instances are not here and gone, they linger forever and one day our kids are going to have to be involved whether they want to or not
          • We have got to welcome crisis into the classroom in order to make this world a better place
          • It’s getting worse out there and teachers can do so much in the classroom to prevent and educate our children so that they are not another casualty or worse, part of the problem

Creating change in our educational system is not a lone ranger achievement to attain. It requires hard work from many educators who have different talents and passions working together for the better good. Because of this collective effort, our circumstances become #bettertogether. Tune in to hear how you can become part of the change so our kids receive the education that they deserve.

                      • Being in education is challenging.
                      • But as dire as the system is currently, as insurmountable is the transformative change required, we educators still have power to make change in ourselves, in our schools, in our districts and in our states just by being us
                      • We all can be a change agent if we focus on what makes us unique and how we can use that attribute to create the change we want to see in our circumstances
                      • Ideas are just ideas until action is taken and they become change agents
                      • I want to be a change agent – I want to stand for something that matters and be part of making it happen
