FOOTBALL IS BACK. We love this time of year when expectations are high and everybody is ready to go! We went heavy on the fantasy football this week since we have a couple of weeks left until College Football and the NFL seasons start for real. Spencer and I address a mailbag question about the NFL preseason and then we do a rapid fire segment where I have Spencer chose between two similar players that he would rather draft.
We both participate in a mirror fantasy football league of the nationally known Scott Fish Bowl. If you don't know anything about this that is okay, we give a high level overview. Otherwise look it up it is pretty cool. We go through the first seven rounds of our draft and talk about the following per round:
1. Who we drafted in that round, what pick was it, and why that player?
2. What player in that round did we like the most (aside from our chosen player)
3. What player in that round did we like the least (aside from our chosen player)
Hopefully this helps give you insight as you prepare for your own drafts in the next two weeks!
We finish the show with a recommendation of the week.
This week we recapped NBA Summer League and the debuts of all five first round quarterbacks in their first NFL preseason games. The Utah Jazz will be featured in the night game on Christmas day against the Dallas Mavericks, which we are hyped about!
We then talk about how if we were in control of the setup of college football how the 12 team playoff would be so much better than the current 4 team playoff. The reason being is that as a fan, we just want my team to have a chance, hope, and something to play for other than a meaningless bowl game! We talk about how the SEC "Super" Conference with the additions of Texas and Oklahoma could potentially spark a massive change to the college football landscape, and for the typical fan's sake we sure hope so!
Who is your personal greatest sports villain? We answer this question to start off the pod in this week's mailbag. We then discuss the Olympic Gold Medal basketball game and the US team, as well as our guy Rudy Gobert and France.
Spencer and I then dive into fantasy football 2021 as we are getting ready for the season. We discuss players at each position that we are targeting and avoiding this year.
We end the show with Good Beats / Bad Beats and a recommendation of the week!
We start off the show by answering some mailbag questions and then jumping right into how the Utah Jazz handled the 2021 NBA Draft. We go over the top 8 picks in the draft and the potential impact the players will have on their prospective teams.
Free Agency is still going on but is essentially wrapped up now. Hear our takes on how the Jazz did as well as our takes on deals around the NBA. We end the show with a recommendation of the week.
We definitely went way over board for our first episode, but we don't really care. Part 1 we talk Good Beats and Bad Beats, then specifically about the Utah Jazz roster and NBA Free Agency / Trade Rumors. Part 2 is solely NFL over / under win totals and division winners for the year. We end the show with a book / documentary recommendation.
Preview for the Always Next Year Podcast where Spencer Wixom and I (Skyler Sinks) will be giving a preview of the goals of our show. We will be talking about our home town team the Utah Jazz, the NBA, the NFL, and all aspects in between. We hope you enjoy the topics of future discussions and please subscribe as we build a community for small market sports fans through this podcast.
