Today we are lucky to have Lead Producer, Therese Barry-Tanner the documentary film, “Will I Be Next?” Therese lost her mother to dementia in 2008 and began the project a couple of years later in an effort to promote greater awareness of the disease and reduce stigma.   In addition, we have with us Barbara Goeckner who is feature in the film. This film combines a nice combination of real life living with the dementia, research and dealing with the medical profession.

Today we are lucky to have Dr. Jason Carthen and Mike Duerson.
Dr Jason is known by some as “The Leadership Linebacker™”. He is a former Professional Football Player with the World Champion New England Patriots, an international speaker, author, avid blogger, media-personality, and philanthropist. Today we are going to discuss his views on concussions and football.
Mike Duerson suffered a concussion while playing college basketball for IUPUI
at the age of 18. He is now 57years old. In 2009, Mike was ruled as “Gravely Mentally Disabled” by the government and removed from the workforce. Currently, he is a philanthropist and the Founder of Dave Duerson Athletic Safety Fund, Inc. which provides nationwide Concussion Testing called (ImPACT) for student athletes in grades 7 – 12, in honor of his brother.
The foundation also provides Concussion Education curriculum to school districts for children in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Today we are lucky to have Gary Joseph LeBlanc back with us along with his new co-author Lisa Rodriquez. Together they wrote the training text book “Managing Alzheimer’s and Dementia Behaviors.” Together they also co-created a Dementia Training for Hospitals.

Gary is the founder of the Alzheimer’s/Dementia Hospital Wristband Project and co-founder of Dementia Mentors.
Lisa started the “Purple Angel Dementia Friendly Community of Highlands County in Florida; along with an online caregiver support group page for family caregivers dealing with AD and related Dementias, called “A Breath of Fresh Air for Caregivers.”

Today we are lucky to have Patricia Conoway, the author of "Listening With My Eyes." She has achieved her lifelong dream of having a ranch with horses in the back yard in New Mexico where she has lived for 23 years. In her role, Patty oversees special education projects for clinical and senior care professionals, manages public policy forming activities, legislative advocacy, and is responsible for a robust community education program, called the "Advance Care Planning Partners." The program is aimed at changing the culture of end of life care. Patty holds certificates in Palliative Chaplaincy and Gerontology, and is pursuing a Masters in Human Services.
