Suzanna Newell from MN Team Humanity is bridging divisiveness and healing humanity by bringing people together with empathy, connection and compassion. Suzanna’s spiritual growth and healing journey began 30 hours after taking her second dose of the Pfizer Covid Shot on April 13, 2021. She went from no underlying health conditions and doing triathlons and the MS 150 bike ride from Duluth to Minneapolis, plus a busy corporate job and family of teenagers to overnight being bedbound and ofetn in a wheelchair. I spent years in Financial Services until my COVID vaccine injury and since, when I feel well enough, I advocate for support for the injured and a coming together of humanity to see each other’s suffering. She says, “I am trying to shine a light on the fact that all of us in the world have suffered in some way or another from the pandemic. And that we need to see each other’s suffering with compassion and empathy. There was and still is so much division regarding the covid shots. We spent so much time pointing fingers at each other as right or wrong. Having willingly taken the vaccine and then having an adverse reaction, I can see clearly how pointing fingers and dividing was not going to help the world heal.” Hence MN Team Humanity a place where those who are injured and those who support the injured can come together in connection, compassion, curiosity, and communication. October is Vaccine Injury Awareness Month–reach out to someone you may know who’s been affected by it. Discover more at Suzanna Newell’s Substack: teamhumanity.substack.com Connect with us if you are injured or know someone who is and spread Team Humanity kindness and compassion.

Scott Edelstein is the author of many books, including Sex and the Spiritual Teacher: Why It Happens, When It’s a Problem, and What We All Can Do, as well as The User’s Guide to Spiritual Teachers. Scott’s writing on spiritual topics has also appeared in Shambhala Sun, Spirituality and Health magazine, American Jewish World, the anthology What About God?, and elsewhere. Since 1978, Scott has studied happily and productively with several spiritual teachers.
As the friend of many spiritual teachers from a variety of traditions, he has also spent much time with them “off duty,” sometimes acting as confidant. Scott’s two most recent books focus on the relationships between spiritual teachers and their students; how such relationships can become strong, nurturing, and safe; and how and why they can easily go awry.
Explore with us in this episode:
What is the difference between a spiritual teacher and other types of spiritual leaders? Why do so many spiritual teachers–perhaps 15% of them–create big trouble? What exactly is discernment, and why is it so important? When working with a spiritual teacher, why is it so important to pay attention to your body? For more information you can read SEX AND THE SPIRITUAL TEACHER and/or THE USER’S GUIDE TO SPIRITUAL TEACHERS. People can learn more about both books at thespiritualteachersite.com. Scott’s article, “What I Wish I’d Known When I Met My First Spiritual Teacher,” has just been published in the new issue of Buddhadharma magazine, at https://www.lionsroar.com/buddhadharma-current-issue/.

Kathryn shares, “The light of truth. Truth is heaviest when you run from it or cover it up. But when you embrace truth, it becomes lighter in weight, and it becomes an instrument of light and guidance. I am not sure I will ever be fully free because, in many ways, that little girl Kathryn still lives in me as she must. She is the beacon, the lighthouse, as I make my way – personally and professionally. I want to shine a light on common sense reasons to pass strong laws and policies that protect children and honor justice.” She offers Child protection legislative change services so that surviviors have a voice and pathway to hold accountability so abuse can cease. Tim Ballard uses his business undergrad and corporate finance/options trader currently a real estate investor for the last 10 years. Tim uses his masters in teaching and teaching experience to guide individuals in making sound real estate/financial investments an educator, real estate. Tim shares, “Continuing on the path toward freedom for me looks like daily meditation, a dedicated workout, Al-anon/sobriety, individual therapy and a very supportive family. Painful untangling of growing up in an alcoholic household combined with clerical abuse in my early 20s forced me to go to a very deep, dark place that represented a lot of pain and trauma. Only through that though have I been able to shine a brighter light for myself, my family and my community on ways to channel my own trauma and abuse into something much more powerful. The ability to survive and thrive in life with my family and my investment career through constant self reflection, examining my own unconscious beliefs and trying to continuously wake up to freedom and wholeness which lies beyond trauma. And how Just a deeper respect for good active listening matters in times of healing.” To learn more about each visit: www.childusadvocacy.org
