Angela Bonfanti was announced as the first female President and CEO of the CNIB in August 2024.
Over the past 13 years, she has held several leadership positions at the organization, and most recently was their Chief Operating Officer.
She has been a lifelong champion of the rights of Canadians living with blindness or low vision, and will tell Jacob about her personal experience growing up with a father who had low vision.

Last month, Fighting Blindness Canada dropped by the show to reflect on their 50th anniversary. Host Jacob Shymanski and Nisreen Abdel-Majid reviewed some of that conversation and reflected on some of their own experiences from their vision health journey. Dr. Larissa Moniz and Morgan Ineson were featured in the interview. Dr. Moniz is the Director of Research and Mission Programs at Fighting Blindness Canada, Morgan is the Senior Manager Education at FBC.

September 17, 2024The Feature: Amy Amantea's Audio Play Disability Tour Bus - Tuesday September 17th, 2024
Amy Amantea is an artist, actor, advocate, and regular contributor to AMI Today! Amy recently celebrated the release of an audio play that she’s been working on for a few years called Disability Tour Bus.
Amy co-wrote the play that follows Shiloh, a young wheelchair-user, as they navigate their first day as a guide for “Funcouver Bus tours”. Working alongside longtime employee and relentless dad-joker, Hugh, Shiloh struggles to stick to the “funcouver” script when so much of “Canada’s most wheelchair-accessible city” is still so incredibly inaccessible.
People and politics collide until a new passenger, Tess, played by Amy Amantea, comes aboard and offers unexpected common ground. The tour must go on! Because there’s someone special waiting for Tess at the end. At least she hopes there is.
