  • Lag measures vs. lead measures— and what you really need to track

    A short episode today…

Almost included it the info WITH one of the others, but this topic seems to stand on its own. So, it merits space of its own.

    Here’s why.

    šŸ‘‡

It’s easy to confuse LAG measure with LEAD measures.

Or, to say it another way, it’s easy to confuse the ā€œoutcomeā€ with the elements that create the outcomes— the causes with the consequences.

    šŸ¤”

When it comes to ā€œthe business sideā€ of getting paid for what you know, a lot of thought leaders and content creators look only at SALES. They forget, however, to look at what drives those sales…

    Leads.

    šŸ‘

Sales = lag measures. They are the results of the daily work.

Leads = the work you do to share the message and move people towards the offer.

    Examples of lead measures include—
šŸ‘‰ Number of email opt-ins on your website

šŸ‘‰ Number of face-to-face conversations at networking events (with qualified people)

    šŸ‘‰ Number of strategy / non-sales calls

We make it super-simple and pleasantly practical in this talk.

  • A practical spreadsheet to build a better business plan

I used to hate math. Turns out, when it comes to doing the ā€œbusiness side of it,ā€ math is your friend.

Especially when you have a spreadsheet.

    šŸŽÆ

We continue talking about getting paid for what you know in this ultra-practical episode, walking through a spreadsheet (based on the eight questions outlined in episode 1 of the series), highlighting two actual businesses…

    āšœļø

A few things to keep in mind…

1ļøāƒ£ Look at the leads and conversion percentages…

They are PART of the business model. You can just count ā€œsales,ā€ you need to consider the number of eyeballs it takes to convert too a transaction.

2ļøāƒ£ Consider the relational side of it…

    3ļøāƒ£ Play the long game.

  • A review of what needs to be on your sales page

In this talk we back-up and do a quick review of what needs to be on your sales page— focusing on the offers you can make…

… it’s ALL part of ā€œgetting paid for what you knowā€ and doing the business side of it.

    Ā

Remember, people must know the PROBLEM you solve and the POTENTIAL you lead them towards.

They must also know how to take action and move forward— how to engage your services.

And, they need a clear ā€œmenuā€ of products that helps them identify the way you can serve them the best.

You don’t need to be sales and pushy, but you do need to be clear…

  • 8 questions to ask yourself as you build the business model

Several years ago, I stumbled upon the reason you need to ā€œdo the mathā€ very early as you begin projecting your business revenue. This idea isn’t originally mine— at all. I just didn’t see it until a business opportunity ā€œforced meā€ to take a closer look.

I learned there were EIGHT questions we needed to ask in order to make the thing work…

    šŸ‘‡

1ļøāƒ£ What income goal do you want to hit?

2ļøāƒ£ What specific products / programs do you currently have that you can sell— and what is their exact price point?

3ļøāƒ£ How many do you need to sell in order to hit that income goal?

4ļøāƒ£ How many leads (read: eyeballs that see your sales page) convert and make a purchase?

5ļøāƒ£ Where do you get leads? And how can you acquire more so you can keep directing people to the offer(s) you have?

6ļøāƒ£ Which specific behaviors of yours drive those leads, such that you can increase them? (Examples: podcasting, live videos, reels, networking events, etc.)

7ļøāƒ£ What ā€œnext stepsā€ do you have in place to continue nurturing buyers and sending them UP the value ladder, so they continue purchasing from you?

8ļøāƒ£ What entry points do you have (low ticket) that can— on auto-pilot— lead people forward to make ever-increasing purchases from you?

    āļø

In this talk we walk through the eight questions and why they matter…

  • Many life coaches coach the wrong stuff— here’s how to fix it! | How to coach so clients get results, #2 of 2

A lot of life-coaching (and business coaching and ā€œother thingsā€ coaching) jumps the tracks because we disconnect the daily work from the goal. And when we do that, we start focusing on the LAG measures rather than the LEAD measures.

Or, to say it another way, we look at the scoreboard (or the scale or the profit margin or the whatever) rather than focus on the ā€œvery next play.ā€

    🤯

As a coach, you must steer your client towards the daily tasks, the grind— these are the ā€œlead measuresā€ (everyone becomes enamored with the ā€œlag measuresā€)

    šŸ‘‡

    Ā

Hold them accountable— and encourage them through— the daily grind of doing the work.

The daily action steps are where the magic happens.

    🐰

    Ā

Note: this is ALSO the most BORING part of the process…

šŸ‘‰ Sitting in the chair and writing

    šŸ‘‰ Getting up and exercising

šŸ‘‰ Pushing the deserts or snacks aside

šŸ‘‰ Practicing the speech or skill or task over and over and over, putting in the reps

šŸ‘‰ Outlining the lesson plan, crafting the content, etc…

Yep, this is most often the UNSEEN work that no one applauds— so it will help if you ā€œsee itā€ and encourage them in it.

    But, when it happens…

    … people make progress.

    They reach their potential.

And that’s a win for everyone.

    Ā

    Listen in.

As always, we’ll try to make it super-simple and pleasantly practical.

  • How to coach so your clients make progress | How to coach so clients get results, #1 of 2

    About to coach someone?

You need to take time and help your client figure out what the ā€œend goalā€ looks like for them. (This may even reveal whether or not they’re a good fit for you / you’re a good fit for them.)

šŸ‘€ Observation: just because we’re all going to the SAME PLACE with your framework doesn’t mean it looks the same to each of us. šŸ‘€

    Ā

This includes the expectations (and dreams) they have— if everything worked perfectly— for ALL of the following, even if you are coaching them about business or writing or homeschooling or church work or running a non-profit or anything else…

    šŸ’™Fitness

    šŸ’°Finance

    šŸ  Family

    šŸ›  Factory (work, career)

    šŸ™ Faith

    šŸ‘Š Friends

    šŸŽ‰ Fun

… because there goals MUST fit in with ā€œall of life.ā€

    This includes—

ā¤ļø Your client’s life span (which ALSO includes the season of life they’re in)

    šŸ“Œ Your client’s current obligations

    šŸ† Your client’s goals / non-negotiables in other areas

    Ā

    Ā

So, take the time to define what you’re leading your client to— by integrating your objective framework with their subjective goals / preferred future.

If you don’t, you might— as I have done— find yourself coaching them towards something that’s largely irrelevant to them and doesn’t align with their core concerns.

    🤯

    Ā

It sounds vague, perhaps, but this episode is super-duper practical.

  • Is anybody actually listening to what you say? | A-B-Cs of getting paid for what you know #3 of 3

Leaders often ask, ā€œWhat part of my content do I share?ā€

Some suggest to ā€œshare the what and sell the how.ā€

Others contend you should give ā€œthe first halfā€ away and sell the rest (whatever that means).

    Here’s what we teach:

1ļøāƒ£ Share ALL of your content free (i.e., via your podcast and/or blog)

2ļøāƒ£ Share it OUT OF ORDER and in BITE-SIZED pieces

    Ā

Here are a few keys we review in this talk:

šŸ”‘ 1. BASED on your framework— which is why articulating your framework was / is the first step in the A-B-Cs of getting paid for what you know (see episode #61, the first in this series)

šŸ”‘ 2. BUILT on your home base, your website (which is why this was the second step, see episode #63, teh second talk)

šŸ”‘ 3. BITE-SIZED pieces… ā€œall of it, in small pieces, out of orderā€ (note: this can and sometimes SHOULD be long-form content, especially when it’s on your website)

  • The right kind of digital real estate you need | A-B-Cs of getting paid for what you know #2 of 3

It’s a little odd that the ā€œbuilding an online bizā€ almost ALWAYS shifts to questions about social media and YouTube and everything EXCEPT building the one thing you actually own, a website.

In this talk we tackle ā€œBā€ in the A-B-Cs of getting paid for what you know and talk about what you need to on a website.

    Ā

If you’re listening in, here’s what to look for…

āļø Clean & clear & concise = states the problem and potential in a clear one-liner ā€œabove the foldā€

šŸ“¬Capture contact info = has at least one opt-in with an automated delivery and email sequence (of at least 3-5 follow-up emails)

šŸ˜ŽContact info for you = has a clear way for people to get in touch with you— ideally via phone, text, and email

šŸ“£Content delivery = has at least 5 podcasts and/or blog posts

šŸ’° Collect money = is tied to a payment processor on your site (i.e., the money goes into your account— not someone else’s store)

šŸ“³ Call to action = the visitor knows exactly what to do to engage your services (i.e., schedule a call, sign-up, etc.)

  • The first step in monetizing your expertise | A-B-Cs of getting paid for what you know #1 of 3

Here are the four aspects of getting paid for what you know:

āšœļø A = Architect your framework

    šŸ–„ļø B = Build your home base

    šŸ“£ C = Communicate regularly

šŸ’°D = Deliver your core products & programs

In this talk, we’ll tackle the first…

    Ā

Remember: You don’t just share information, you lead people towards a transformation.

    This transformation might be:

šŸ‘‰ An elusive result / goal (i.e., losing weight)

šŸ‘‰ A new skill (playing guitar, photography)

šŸ‘‰ An internal transformation (mental or emotional healing + health)

šŸ‘‰ Perspective to live differently (life after death or divorce)

šŸ‘‰ New habits, new way of living (time management, money management / budgeting)

šŸ‘‰ Increased knowledge, accelerate the learning curve (i.e., most of the Amplify resources)

*The above are just a few examples. Bottom line: you are NOT selling info. People can find anything they want to know on Google. You are selling information that does something profound.

    Ā

Your framework, wherever your framework takes people, MUST include each of the following:

šŸ POTENTIAL = The destination, a clearly defined place you take people

ā‰ļø PROBLEM you solve, the thing keeping them back

🧭 PATH to move them from where they are now to that preferred location (their potential)

šŸ“Œ PROGRESS POINTS along the path, so show them that they are making progress. These need to be objective in nature, so people clearly know when they have made significant movement.

šŸ’©You might also clarify the PIT(S) = stuck points that they will likely face— just so they know to expect them and move forward.

    Ā

One you have clarified (at least) the list above, you have the outline you need for a book, a course, coaching, a podcast, blog… live events…

… this content can be packaged in numerous ways.

    Ā

    Confused?

    Lean in closer and listen.

We’ll make it practical AND simple.

  • Two kinds of content ā€œmapsā€ you can create + examples | How to create your content framework #3 of 3

As opposed to simply spouting out information, you want to take people on a journey, an intentional trip that is—

šŸŽÆ Targeted— it has a goal

ā™»ļø Transformative— it creates real change in their lives, for the good

šŸ‘‰ Teaching— it DOES impart wisdom to them

    Ā

There are TWO primary ways to create this process of intentional transformation:

1ļøāƒ£ INCLUSIVE framework = they can tackle the progress points in any order

2ļøāƒ£ LINEAR framework = they must go in order, as subsequent steps build on the previous.

    Ā

Whichever way you go (and we provide examples of each in this talk), ALL frameworks are—

    āļø Not just information.

The framework INCLUDES great information— it’s vital and necessary. But, you lead people to apply the information so they get quantifiable results.

    āļø Not just learning.

    Transformation is the goal.

You help the client LEAVE where they are and move closer to where they are designed to be.

    Ā

We make it super-simple and pleasantly practical in this talk…
