Dirty Epic welcomes aboard @jia6am and @jonnymaven for its 114th episode of Amplify Series.

Although Jia and I have been working together at 6AM for over 10 years now, it is quite rare for us to play back-to-back, making it even more special whenever the opportunity arises. We are both DJs who take the art of the warm-up very seriously, and this set was a great chance for us to step back from the +140 BPM techno we all know and love.

The two-hour set begins with ambient soundscapes, gradually introducing subtle rhythms and melodic motifs that build a quiet but insistent tension on the dance floor. As the energy evolves, we weave deeper and more hypnotic elements into the mix, easing everyone into a collective headspace rather than catapulting them straight into peak-time intensity. This deliberate pacing captures the essence of a proper warm-up: guiding the crowd on a journey where each transition feels purposeful, ushering in anticipation for what’s to come.

Performing back-to-back fosters a special synergy between us, as our shared experience and mutual respect for each other’s style allows for seamless interplay throughout the night. While we both love high-BPM techno, there’s a certain magic in exploring the gentler, more spacious side of our sound. It grants us the creative freedom to layer textures and moods that might otherwise remain hidden when we dive straight into relentless, pounding beats.

Ultimately, this b2b set stands out as a testament to our evolution as DJs and collaborators—showcasing how the foundational warmth of a carefully curated opening can lay the groundwork for an unforgettable night of music. It’s in these moments that we remind ourselves and our community why we’ve been dedicated to the scene for so many years: it’s all about connection, flow, and the shared journey on the dance floor.

Berlin-based Nicolas Bougaïeff follows up February’s ‘Primal Extensions’ EP with ‘Prime Funktion’, the second instalment of his ‘Prime’ EP series on NovaMute. Expanding on his ongoing exploration of prime rhythms and polytemporality, Bougaïeff continues to push the boundaries of techno with intricate rhythmic frameworks and hypnotic, high-intensity club cuts.

He kicks off this latest offering with ‘Prime’, a bleeping, twisted, and trippy late-night techno cut built around a quintuplet groove and 7:6 synth structures. The fantastic ‘Funktion’ is another potent, menacing track, where a shadowy synth loop repeats over hefty kicks in a dystopian fashion, driven by prime rhythmic divisions that create tension and unpredictability. ‘Nucleus’ is a hypnotic piece rolling on thudding kicks, with tumbling percussive lines dancing over the drums while its rational intonation scale, tuned around the 17th harmonic, brings a microtonal depth to the melodies. Last but not least, ‘Womb’ contrasts ever-evolving melodic patterns ringing down over lurching drums and unresolved loops, creating a dynamic interplay between chaos and calm. The artwork mirrors the EP’s approach, visualising prime rhythms as layered circular structures, where individual patterns remain independent yet momentarily align—capturing the tension between freedom and synchronisation that defines the Prime series.

Nicolas Bougaïeff’s ‘Prime Funktion’ once again showcases his unmatched mastery of polyrhythm, with the EP already receiving early support from Charlotte De Witte, Dubfire, Boris, Laurent Garnier, and Elisa Bee.

Drawing from his PhD in minimal techno and decades of experience, Bougaïeff continues his quest to expand the rhythmic possibilities of electronic music. The Prime series introduces listeners to prime rhythms—polyrhythms derived from prime number ratios that challenge traditional binary subdivisions—alongside his pivot mixing techniques, which allow seamless tempo integration. This explores what Bougaïeff calls 'temporal liberation'—where intricate rhythms both literally break the constraints of traditional techno and serve as a symbolic metaphor for broader notions of personal, social, and metaphysical freedom.

Beyond his releases on labels such as Mute and NovaMute, Bougaïeff co-founded Liine, creators of the Lemur music app—famously used aboard the International Space Station. He founded the Berlin Academy of Electronic Music and reaches a global audience through his online tutorials, where he explains innovative production techniques. His videos on pivot mixing have gained notable recognition among industry peers.

Dirty Epic welcomes aboard @elyas13130sp for its 113th episode of Amplify Series.

Marseille-based producer Damien Lapéna launched his ELYAS project on the renowned Modularz imprint from Los Angeles. Between 2010 and 2016, he released over 35 vinyl records across various projects, collaborating with industry heavyweights such as Jérôme Sydenham, Perc, Dustin Zahn, and Pfirter.

During this period, he performed at some of Europe’s most prestigious venues, including Tresor, Berghain, Corsica Studios, and Cassette Club, as well as in New York. His sets saw him share the stage with influential artists like Function, DJ Nobu, Developer, and Grindvik.

After a long hiatus, ELYAS returned in 2020 with fresh inspiration and a renewed creative vision. Since then, he has released new material on Soma Records, Ben Sims' Symbolism, and The Infamous Player, marking a new chapter in his career with a signature blend of raw, driving techno.

In addition to his production work, ELYAS is the founder of Seclusion, a label dedicated to showcasing forward-thinking, raw techno. With Seclusion, he creates a platform for like-minded artists who share his passion for deep, hypnotic, and powerful sounds that push the genre’s boundaries.

A true artist at heart, ELYAS is dedicated to the art of DJing in its purest form, delivering high-energy, vinyl-only sets that showcase his deep connection to music.
