Michael Brito is the Senior Vice President of Social Business Strategy at Edelman Digital. He recently joined AMP UP Your Social Media’s host Glenn Gaudet to discuss the role of content in social media. Michael also discussed his recently published book Your Brand, The Next Media Company.
"There is a content surplus and an attention deficit in the minds of consumers today. They are highly influential and aiding others down the purchase funnel using organic conversations about the products they care about and the ones they don’t. In order to reach these consumers, brands must create recent, relevant and value add content in order to break through the clutter and successfully change their behavior.
Content is still king – and if you’re a brand marketer, you need to start thinking like a media company, too. Your Brand, The Next Media Company brings together the strategic insights, operational frameworks, and insights and practical approaches for transforming your brand into a highly successful media company."
Michael offers tips on the importance of themes and long form content and how to implement them:
Understand the process. Recognize the stakeholders, administrators, those in control and who is involved. Make sure that you are telling your brand’s story consistently.
Start with the themes. Before you determine a strategy, look at what is going to be the content narrative and the content themes. The majority of your content should not be about the product, brand, features, etc. Followers will reject those messages. Make sure that the content shared is worth the followers’ time.
Don’t forget the power of long form content. Like blog content. We search to find what we are looking for, if you don’t have long form content in search engines, than people can’t find you. People use search engines, not social media to find what they are looking for.
