From Titus 3:3 you will see that Paul lists nine past lives of every believer that by God’s grace must be kept behind them, in order for God to be glorified, and the gospel and sound doctrine adorned by the church.

Jesus is the Savior who transforms people’s lives by His grace. Turn to Him! Look to Christ! Believe in Jesus, and follow Him now! If you have done that, then you will love His Word, His Church, His people, and His service. You will be motivated from within, to obey God’s will. It will be a joy to you. From Titus 3:1-2 we are considering seven specific godly pursuits that fit exactly into the perfect bull’s eye of God’s will for your life, so you can live in the will of God, be blessed, be a witness, and give God glory.

Biblical preaching is no easy task. And when you get to the delivery part, God requires that preachers preach in a certain way, His way, the biblical way, with a certain tone of delivery. From this text, I want you to see three major facets of biblical preaching, so if you are called to preach, you will do what God commands you to do, and if you are not called to preach, you will know what is require so that you can seek out preaching that conforms to the Word of God and better pray for and encourage those who preach to you.

Our text is a good new year’s text for it is foundational to Christian living. Doctrine is for living, not merely for knowing, and those who study doctrine merely to know truth but not practice is are like tadpoles with ugly swollen heads and tiny atrophied bodies and limbs. Many have strong opinions about what they believe is right, but fail to practice even the basic disciplines of the Christian life.

Doctrine and theology are necessary for learning and understanding so that we may obey. Without knowing the truth, living becomes dangerous, for knowledge rejected merely increases our condemnation before God and makes us vulnerable to every wind of doctrine.

Our text speaks of the appearing of Jesus Christ. God knows we need to know what the future holds and that is why there is so much about prophecy in the Bible. We need it and should never ignore it. Jesus’ any moment return for those who are His should be every believer’s longing and source of endless praise. When trials strike, the believer wishes Jesus would return. When they see wickedness in the world, or when persecuted, or when pinning away in prison for their faith, they long for Jesus’ return.

Remember that this entire section addresses how saving grace transforms our lives as a testimony to the world of the saving power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Your life either is an advertisement encouraging people to repent and believe in Jesus Christ or a walking contradiction, giving Jesus’ enemies occasion to blaspheme His fair name because your life shows that the gospel has no power to change a person’s life. There is an evangelistic reason why grace instructs us to live as our text instructs, but the ultimate goal is the glory of God.
