Main Scripture: Psalm 23:1 "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."

Synopsis: As humans, we have an infinite desire for more. Yet, this Psalm declares "I shall not want." Taken in isolation, this is an impossibility. But in relation to following the Great Shepherd, we can find contentment in where He has us and where He is leading us.

Sermon Title: He Makes Me Lie Down

Main Scripture: Psalm 23:1-2 "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters."

Synopsis: A good shepherd both moves and rests his sheep. In our lives today, rest is often desirable but difficult to find. This week we will look at four hindrances to our ability to rest and the single solution for each of them.

Sermon Title: Ownership & Belonging

Main Scripture: John 10:3-4 "The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice."

Synopsis: The opening phrase of Psalm 23 is a declaration of ownership and belonging. It is this premise that sets the stage for the rest of the Psalm. We spend our time together this week looking at two markers of ownership and belonging between a sheep and its shepherd.

Sermon Title: My Shepherd

Main Scripture: 1 Peter 2:24-25 "He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed. Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls."

Synopsis: We are all like sheep that wander into danger and sin. Praise God that we also have the Good Shepherd who sacrifices His life for his Sheep! This Easter message is the beginning of a series looking at the well known Psalms 23. Because our Shepherd laid His life down for us, we can "dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

Main Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:31 "So you should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts."

Synopsis: In 1 Corinthians 12-14, the Apostle Paul teaches extensively on the gifts that the Holy Spirit gives to each believer and the proper way to use those gifts for the benefit of others. It is all too common to neglect the gifts or to try to use them for our own good, when the clear call is to seek supernatural ways to be the most helpful for others in our community.

Theme Verse: Romans 12:9 "Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them."

Synopsis: Paul warns about the problem of pretending to love the church, but not putting that love into action. He then goes on to give example after example about what it looks like to live out that love. A healthy church doesn' just pretend to love each other, but really loves.

Sermon Title: One Body, Many Parts

Main Scripture: Romans 12:4-5 "Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other."

Synopsis: This text is one of several in the Bible that use the body as a metaphor for the church. Similar to individual parts of the body, God gives each of us abilities to do certain things well. In isolation those abilities can do some good, but the impact is multiplied when in unity with the abilities of others. A healthy church resists isolation and embraces unity, diversity, and mutuality.

Sermon Title: A Holy People

Main Scripture: Ephesians 5:25-27 - Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

Synopsis: In this text, Paul makes the claim not once, but twice, that Jesus sacrificed Himself for the church with the goal of making her holy. This week, we will explore the concept of holiness: what it is, where it comes from, how it appears in our lives, and ultimately, how we are called to pursue it.

Sermon Title: But God, So God

Main Scripture: Ephesians 2:4-5, 7. "But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus."

Synopsis: The phrase "but God" communicates the incredible news of the gospel. We were dead in our sins, "but God" loved us and granted us salvation through Jesus. That isn't the end of the story though.The phrase "so God" communicates continued purpose after salvation. A healthy church is made up of individuals who have received life in Jesus AND live out His plans and purposes.
