Richard Hoagland was a successful family man who lived with his wife and two sons in a suburb outside of Indianapolis, Indiana. On February 10, 1993, he called his wife from work and told her he was sick and heading to the emergency room. He never came home again. For over 23 years, his wife Linda and their two sons wondered about his fate. But in 2016, a bizarre story emerged that proved Richard Hoagland wasn’t who they or anyone else thought he was.

They say hindsight is 20/20. On July 28, 2013, 50-year-old Robert Hoagland, a husband and father of two living in Newtown, Connecticut, had bagels with his son, mowed the lawn, gassed up his wife's car, and disappeared. Friends and family have been dissecting his last moves for years, trying to find clues as to what happened to Robert. Was he a victim of violence? Did he harm himself? Did he simply walk away, leaving his family and all of his possessions behind?

On December 7, 2022, the public finally received some answers when Robert Hoagland was found. Authorities say that he had been living in Rock Hill, New York for the past nine years. We’ve all heard of people who have used children as pawns in a divorce. Maybe they’re fighting on visitation or child support payments because they don’t want to give their soon-to-be ex what they want. But in some extreme cases, the animosity and need for control can be destructive. Charles Vosseler needed to be in charge. He needed to decide where his two sons, 3-year-old CJ, and 2-year-old Billy, were at all times. So when it was clear that his marriage to his wife, Ruth, wasn’t working out, Charles hatched a plan.

On October 9, 1986, this plan culminated in him kidnapping his children and keeping them hidden for decades. Over the past 30-plus years, Ruth has never given up on her children. Today, at age 75, she is still out there fighting to keep their names and their faces in the public consciousness, in hopes of finally bringing them home.

November 20, 2022 marked both Transgender Day of Remembrance and the 10-year-anniversary of Sage Smith's disappearance in Charlottesville, Virginia. Sage is still missing, but her case has been classified as a homicide. The man she was supposed to be meeting that night, Erik McFadden, has also been missing since shortly after her disappearance. We are re-releasing our two-part episode on Sage Smith in hopes of getting her name out there more and generating new leads.

When a black, transgender woman went missing from Charlottesville, Virginia on November 20, 2012, her family was appalled by the lack of a police investigation, despite having a solid person of interest. In Part 2 of our look into Sage Smith's disappearance, we talk about the investigative timeline, Erik McFadden, the main person of interest, as well as some other possible suspects. Sage Smith has received a fraction of the coverage of white women who went missing from the same area at the same time, but her story deserves to be told. Sage Smith has a family who loves her, and they deserve answers and accountability.

On November 20, 2012, 19-year-old Sage Smith was supposed to meet a man she had been seeing. She told her roommate where she was going and headed down to Charlottesville, Virginia's Main Street, where they were supposed to meet. Sage has never been seen after that night. Police spoke with the man she was supposed to meet that night, Erik McFadden, but he disappeared from the area just days after Sage. While he did give conflicting stories via phone and email, police have never been able to interview him in person.

Now, 10 years later, both Sage and Erik have missing person reports filed on them, and a community is wondering why this case is still unsolved. Her family blames the fact that Sage is a black, transgendered woman for the lack of police response and publicity as compared to similar cases of white women in the area. They know that there are people out there who hold the answers to this case and have the ability to bring Sage home.

On July 27, 2021, 5-year-old Michael Vaughan’s father went to go check on Michael’s younger sister and order a pizza. He was out of the room for 15 or 20 minutes, but when he came back, his little boy was gone. Police in Fruitland, Idaho, along with other agencies, launched a massive search, but no trace of the boy was found. Over a year and a half went by, until seemingly out of nowhere an arrest was made. On August 15, 2008, a mother dropped her five-year-old son off to visit his father for the weekend. Her ex, Ernesto Gonzalez, hadn’t been very involved in their son, Giovanni’s, life since their separation three years prior, but he recently started making an effort to have a relationship with the boy. Daisy Colon packed Giovanni’s backpack with clothes and dropped him off in nearby Lynn, Massachusetts. But when she came to pick him up again, her little boy was gone.

An investigation was launched, and police even eventually secured a confession. The problem? Investigators didn’t believe it. Daisy believes that Ernesto hit their son somewhere, but nearly 15 years later, no one has found him. What happened to Giovanni Colon-Gonzalez?
