God made us in His image. And God is emotional – just look at the life of Jesus, who is God, and you see the perfect Man, with emotions!
So emotions and feelings, clearly, are how Go made us to be! But how much credence should we give to our feelings and emotions?
Ever walked out your front door feeling on top of the world, to find you have a flat tyre? Your mood changes, and you’re suddenly nothing but darkness and gloom ahead.
Ever finished a large meal, felt stuffed, spotted the cake trolley and thought you were hungry again? Those are your feelings changing.
Which is why we can’t trust to our feelings, although we should always see them as a useful temperature gauge.
But just like sensors and gauges in cars, or even the directions of your recently updated SatNav – we have to learn to interpret what we’re seeing and hearing, through the lens of someone we trust.
That’ll be a mechanic for your car, and God for everything else!
But, if God made us with feelings, so how do we break the cycles of habitually doing stuff we don’t want to do, and feel the wonderful, beautiful, glorious peace of God flowing through us?

Andy B was having a little quiet time with God, and was reading Isaiah 66.
In the second verse of this scripture, God tells us the sort of people He is looking to.
This comes just after we’re reminded of how God made the universe and everything in it, during the first 144 hours (6 days) of the universe.
But, as spectacular as all of that is, and all of creation - that is nothing, compared to how God will look to those who believe in Him, have a healthy respect and reverence of Him, and who takes God’s words, through scripture – treating them as they should be: the spoken words of God Himself!
Do we read scripture like that? As much as are God’s children, we still need to be reverent towards Him.
He is God and He loves us.
But He is still God and worthy of our love and respect!

We get reminders to renew our house insurance, our car insurance, our breakdown cover and host of other things.
But do we put as much effort into ensuring our car doesn’t suddenly become illegal to drive on the road, or let our house insurance run out ; if we’re renting in the UK this is something we can’t, not, have.
Time with God can be so easily squeezed out of our days due to the unexpected things that crop up.
And with paper and digital diaries, we should have a good grasp of things we know are coming up – so do we put enough effort into ensuring that on our busier days, we’re leaving time for us and God?
We can’t do much about surprises and the unexpected! But we can do plenty about those things we have coming up which might take up our time.

As Christians - when we pray - are we praying to a loving, Father God who desires us to spend time with Him?
Or do we prefer to pray using a non-permanent pen, just in case we got our prayer wrong and don’t want to look foolish.
When we’re praying, as David Wilkerson wonderful pointed out and illustrated in his book “The Cross and The Switchblade” when we pray we should pray out loud so others can hear us.
To me, that is the difference between writing with permanent and non-permanent pen; praying so others can hear might make us look foolish if ‘it doesn’t work out’. But it also demonstrates that we’re serious about what we’re speaking to God about.

Go Deeper with Andy B, who talks about ‘the warm up’ in relation to church and that uncommonly used word “edification”.
He looks at the idea of going to church, not to be served and to ‘consume’, but to edify fellow Believers, just as it says in our Scripture, 1 Corinthians 14:26.
We wouldn’t go the gym and expect to get fit by spectating. In the same way, we shouldn’t got to church and simply be consumers – we’re called to edify one another, and that’s means arriving at church, ready to worship and get involved in what is going on; as active participants - church is not meant to be a social club, after all!

Doing what God asks us to do can often start out really exciting. But are we doing it to be liked, or get likes or more downloads?
Or are we serving God, out of obedience and trust?
If we’re serving God we’ll always get what is needed to do what God is asking of us. From his own experience, Andy B can recount many times that ‘that thing we need’ invariably comes much later than we’d prefer.
But the working out of our faith isn’t gonna happen without times when we don’t have all we think we need right in front of us.
Really growing faith, happens when we trust God for the things we actually need, but don’t yet have!

Some days and weeks can be easier than others.
Sometimes, we can hit Tuesday morning and feel like the end of our working week is further than we can manage.
But God reminds, us repeatedly, that when we put our hands and lives in His, we’ll always what we need, to accomplish what He desires for us to accomplish – when we walk and work with Him

We’ve recently had to change the software we use to edit the audio on everything we do!
It was a bit of a shock to think I’d have to unlearn a bunch of stuff, in order to use something new.
And, of course, it meant finding something new……….
In life, as with this software issue, things can come up which cause us issues. They may be fairly small issues – like audio editing software! Or something life defining like a tragic accident, or losing a job when you’re the only bread winner in your home.
But, we can choose to continue to let it define us, or accept we need to change and roll with the resistance!
For us, following a tiny amount of effort we found some new editing software, which is actually leagues better than the last one we used.
I wonder where God may asking you to surrender something, simply because He has something much better for us to take hold of. But, God being such a gentle God, is waiting for us to unclench our hands and take hold of what He has for us.

Go Deeper with Andy B as he explains what staying on target means.
He talks about how we should be witnessing to those in our orbit. We don’t have to travel to a foreign country to preach the Gospel. We ought to show God’s love to whomever He places within our reach, like our colleagues at work.
He also touches on the topic of pleasing others. We can’t possibly please everyone. Instead we should please God by doing what He has asked us to do.
If you struggle to stay on target, you’ll want to listen to this!

Andy loves the kitchen! And he was inspired, a while ago, about how saucepans can teach us much about pressure in our lives, and letting that pressure go with God.
Today, he has a saucepan and a colander…both are great at straining, but with each the BerryBunch either lose rice – if they’re a bit too energetic pouring the wet rice in, or slipping the saucepan lid – and losing all the veg.
Even with a strainer, they are only as good as the size of the hole and the size of what you’re trying to strain through!
In life, there will always be things we’re trying to add in or take out, and we use filters and strainers every day to do that.
On the microphone that Andy B is speaking through, there is a physical strainer – a pop shield – as well as 3 digital filters to make it sound better. That audio is then passed through even more filters to get rid of any unwanted background noise and hiss.
So where do we need to let the Holy Spirit be more of the strainer to our life?
Where are we trying to hold a lid on things, when there is a much better filter waiting…well within our reach.
In 2021, at least in the west, we all have access to multiple versions and copies of the bible. We have it on our bookshelves, via the internet and on our phones and tablets.
And scripture is the best filter we will ever have to hear the voice of God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, showing us the best way of separating those things that aren’t good for us.
But, we do need to put ourselves in the hands of our creator…the perfect hands to help us separate what we think is really important, against what God really wants us to look like and get involved in.
