Aniki

Ben and Jon start questioning if their guardian angels wield nail-bats and have a pension for murder while watching Beat-to-Death Angel Dokuro-chan. In this classic sendup of magical girls, romcoms, and slice of life, mild-mannered Sakura-kun pines after his childhood crush despite living with an actual angel. Dokuro may seem innocent, but she also commands the holy, spiked baseball bat Excaliborg, which he uses to constantly kill and resurrect our boy when he annoys her. A memorable, yet disgusting, hilarious, yet garbage show from 2005, this is a nexus of all things anime that everyone should probably (not) see. Also featuring: Pokemon, the Konosuba movie, Kaiba, and Crest of the Stars.

Get out your blood moons, monster mashes, spoopy skeletons, and a few stakes for good measure, it's time for Aniki's shivering review of Castlevania! Something out of the ordinary, Castlevania is an original English adaptation of the classic video games done in an anime style. With a star-studded voice cast, amazing visuals, and the promise of an action-filled adventure of killing vampires, does this Netflix original series live up to the hype? Also featuring: No Guns Life, Kemono Michi, Babylon, and Fate/Grand Order.

What does it mean to live your #bestlife? In searching for this answer, the brothers discover an unlikely masterpiece in The Tatami Galaxy. Following an unnamed protagonist in his quest for his rose-colored campus life and raven-haired beauties, The Tatami Galaxy explores what it means to live, laugh, and love, what friendship really entails, and the introspection needed to grab hold of the reins of your own life. It is no wonder that with its myriad of layers to unpack and its fantastic visual language, it won the 2010 Japan Media Arts Festival Grand Prize in animation and earns it’s place as the first 10/10 Aniki has reviewed. Also featuring: Demon Slayer and All You Need Is Kill.
