Anime Against the World episodes

  • Ouran High School Host Club: Progressive or Small-minded?
This week we explore the very strange and apparently very real world of Host Clubs! Sam teaches us about how these host clubs operate out in Japan (while absolutely not speaking from personal experience *cough, cough*) as well as a run down of what actually is anime? We discuss how this show attempts to introduce some progressive themes and whether it does enough to overcome its shortcomings and earn a place in the Aniverse. From monozygotic incest to tea cup arrousal, this show is definitely something different! Make sure to listen until the end to hear how Sam has become what he despises in Slice of Life.

  • Eden of the East: Terrorists, memory loss and indecent exposure!
This week we explore Perry's recommendation in Eden of the East and see if it has what it takes to secure a place in the Aniverse! Technical mishaps make audio quality very questionable this week but it does not take away from the discussion! From terrorists to penis jokes, this show has a lot to talk about and we had a lot of fun discussing everything, including the surprisingly bad OP, the surprisingly good ED and how planning ahead is a must when trying to escape an all-powerful organisation trying to kill you for spending all your money...

  • Is this a Zombie? With Special Guest Perry A.K.A 'Cloudrenaline'
This week we have a very special guest in the shape of a cloud! Not only has good friend of the show Perry, a.k.a. Cloudrenaline, graced us with his presence but he has brought a gift in the form of a beautiful, dynamic, truck-hitting-zombie of a show for us to discuss! This week we cover everything from the protagonist chair and Naruto logs to psychologist vampires and harem magical girls. See if 'Is This a Zombie?' has what it takes to get into the Aniverse!

  • Inuyashiki: When you just can't look away...
This incredibly intense show contains some very hard to watch scenes that everyone should be warned of before watching! However, if you have seen this show already, boy are you probably going to want to talk about it! On the one hand, this show has everything you could want for sci-fi fans, including aliens and cyborgs and the classic battle of good vs evil.  On the flip side, it has the very real and terrifying elements of psychopathy, terminal illness and loneliness. jaw dropping scenes, confusing plot lines and an overall dark tone leave our hosts lost for words at times. See what they thought of Inuyashiki and if it can overcome these hurdles to find a permanent place in the Aniverse!

  • Vinland Saga: Are viking shows still exciting?
This has to be one of our favourite episodes! Not only do we both agree on the quality of this show, but the gushing that flows this week is unprecedented! Stay tuned for us to suck up to the animation, glorify the character designs and put the plot on a pedestal! From fantastic fight scenes to meaningful character development, there's no question of this getting in the Aniverse, but do you agree? Who dares question the mighty Thors, as we explore Vinland saga on this week's episode of Gateway to the Aniverse!

  • Log Horizon: Is this the best isekai so far?
This week we look an another bloody isekai! and guess what? They're in an online MMO and can't get out! If you're getting deja vu, don't panic - we've been here before. Both Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash AND Sword Art Online failed to get into the Aniverse based on the rules our hosts have set, but can Log Horizon break the trend? From giant rats to giant prats, Will and Sam try with extreme difficulty to make up their mind on this week's contender for Gateway to the Aniverse!

  • Highschool of the Dead, the dying and the sketchy etchy!
This show warrants a double clicking of the 'contains explicit material' box! The sketchy etchy is unbelievably strong with this week's show and the blood and gore isn't far behind. You have been warned! If that hasn't scared you off, get ready for this week's episode as we explore the horror-trope filled, sexy world of Zombies, in High School of the Dead.

  • Dragon Pilot: How the hell do these things work!?
What a concept, I can't believe this hasn't been turned into a Hollywood blockbuster yet! Dragons that turn into fighter planes - What could be better than that? Well, lots of things I imagine, but it's an intriguing preposition! This week our boys discuss everything from the history of the Japanese defence force to the exciting world of Yoghurt-selling old women... It's an enthralling journey into a world of discombobulation,  but will it do enough to get into the Aniverse?

  • Haikyu!!: Is Tanaka the best character ever?
Finally Will gets to experience the beautiful, the iconic Haikyu! and Sam gets to ogle his gorgeous volleyball boys! WARNING: there is a lot of gushing this week, from the banger of an OP to the animation, our hosts have a lot of positives to say about this show, but does it do enough to get into the Aniverse? Well, probably, yes. But! As always, there's good chat, some laughs and some revelations in this week's episode of Gateway to the Aniverse!

  • Shaman King: With Special Guest Oli 'TheOrionSound'
This week we triangulate our discussion with the help of our special guest, Oli, A.K.A. TheOrionSound! Not only did this Youtube star generously donate his time for our humble little podcast, he also sacrificed his all time favourite anime for us to pick apart on the show! This episode we jump into a world of grumpy samurai ghosts, strawberry ice cream and creepy museums. Dress this up with huge trouser cuffs, unbuttoned shirts and John Travolta hair dos and you're left with the early 2000s Goliath that is Shaman King!
