Anime Pulse

Get ready to have triple vision. That’s like being drunk twice with one eye closed. We only ask that you try and take that same patience you might have when drunk as we go over this. Because it’s going to sound a little repetitive but this will have a payoff. We start with China Girl(1942). Johnny Williams is an American reporter who’s freelancing in China during the breakout of WWII. He escapes the Japanese and runs off to an unoccupied China to wheel an deal among people. He gets caught up by a girl and drawn into fighting against the Japanese after they bomb her school. Also there’s a traitorous …

Then in the industry news, ha ha, got ya! Because next comes the Christmas gift exchange! What will our two cohosts possibly unearth!? THEN we get to the new, with just a singular topic about Crunchyroll once again being utter shit. And finally the reviews see us out with Joseph curing his deathy curse and immediately playing super smash with his hot blond maid, meanwhile Andrew begins to see spirals in everything as his life spirals out of control.

This week on Anime Pulse we got vtuber awards, anime dragging its feet, and dancing moments. Up first IRL news has Joseph going back to the gym, and Andrew attended a big fighting game event with some of the top player in the world. Then in the industry news the vtuber awards just wrapped up and announced the winner, and Japanese artists on X are up in arms over blackface being applied to Dandadan. Lastly in the reviews Joseph wades through a really lackluster series of events in a fantasy anime to get to the good stuff, and Andrew brews up a barrel of whisky that will be aged for at least 15 years.

We want everyone to reach under your seats and pull out the old shoe box you find there. Within that box, there should be an old bit of newspaper. Unwrap that and you will find at least two popsicle sticks. Take those and carefully taste the bit of discoloration where the previous treat ended. Give those a quick taste and close your eyes. Congratulations. You are now a weirdo. Tim has Welcome to Japan, Elf-san or Welcome to Japan Ms Elf if you’re looking for the light novel series this is based on. Kazuhiro is a guy who leaves work at quitting time which means he’s the odd one. He …

Do you remember that phase of the internet where everything was about pirates? Like everyone would mention when it’s talk like a pirate day and things like that. We go a little further back before all that with Cutthroat Island(1995). A movie you’ll probably see a whole lot on lists of biggest box office bombs. It and Show Girls killed the studio that made it. Geena Davis is the daughter of a pirate captain. Her dad is one of three pirates that has a map to a massive buried treasure. Her uncle pirate, Frank Langella, kills her dad in his quest for the treasure. So it’s something of a race …

It might be November and that means spooky season is technically over. That doesn’t mean it’s gone from our minds. As they used to say, off the charts but not off our hearts. So we almost sort of have a related theme that keeps it going. So break out your Spirit Halloween costumes of Dismissive Candy Factory Owner or Foreign Blood Drinking Guy and join us. Tim has Bones. And not just those that exist under his skin or in his junk drawer. It’s set in a world where a lot of people have superpowers. Ji has a superpower that doesn’t seem to be that useful. He can regenerate though …
