Problem: GETTING OUR CHILDREN TO THE PLAYOFFS – ALEX SMITH | Washington *Redskins” Style |
• 1980’s baby, Alexander Douglas Smith (born May 7, 1984) is a former American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 16 seasons.
• A 33-year-old with a $94 million contract extension for the Washington Football Team – that dude – Alex Smith.
• Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith was named the 2020 NFL Comeback Player of the Year following a remarkable recovery from what was initially believed to be a career-ending injury. his comeback among the greatest in the history of sports.
Strategy
IF ACEs can be predicted – ACEs can be prevented – but we have to think and behave like the military
• With 'warlike' injury, Alex Smith cleared to rehab at military – a spiral compound fracture of the tibia and fibula in his right leg,
• Smith received special clearance from the Pentagon to get therapy at the Brooke Army Medical Center’s a state-of-the-art facility that provides rehabilitation to patients who have suffered amputations, burns or other functional limb loss during military service.
• “A large part of his rehabilitation success was due to the team at Brooke Army Medical Center’s Center for the Intrepid. He even managed to make friends with an actual soldier who was there with the same injury, but that guys of course was from combat – which I will mention later on.
• They couldn’t have been expected to understand the rationale of the military rehab specialists, the only people on earth who knew that even a severe injury like Smith’s not only could be overcome but already had been.
• Combat Infantryman's Badge (CIB) The CIB is the most highly respected badge in the Army and is awarded only to infantrymen, the guys who slog through mud, sleep on the ground, and fight the enemy face to face every day. To be eligible for one you must have served in an infantry unit in combat.
• Fainting on The Spot: ACEs – Refugee camp – description of the people who sought refugee there after the Rwandan Civil War. Milling around like zombies, expressionless, silent. The consequences of being exposed to war led to PTSD that caused some of the refuges to faint whenever they heard anything resembling gun shots. They wore helmets to protect their heads when they fainted. (sound familiar)
On Resilience:
a spiral compound fracture of the tibia and fibula in his right leg, 17 surgeries, a life-threatening infection, and for some reason, this fool wanted to get back out in the field. His doctor said – I cleared him to play – what do you expect? “He almost died. He almost lost his leg. Why would he want to?
“I was scared to death about putting [Alex] back out there and that is something I struggled with every day.
At the end of the day, I commend Alex because he proved everyone wrong and exceeded any reasonable expectations that anyone had set for him. He not only made it back onto the field but led us to the playoffs. It was a truly remarkable feat.”
Mature human interactions takes effort and open-mindedness for humans who are different than you.
That someone cares about what I am going through. That I am not being judged. That I can fail and still be loved. We suffer from RELATIONAL POVERTY - OUR RELATIONSHIP TEMPLATE HAS FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY
The conversation on ACEs and PCEs is EVERYBODY’S RESPONSIBILITY - HERE IS WHY
Very often, if not always, children that are exposed to adversity and trauma will develop a shattered view of the world.
Brain science tells us that our mind will cling to beliefs that support the views we inherited as children.
The Solution – The Titanic Shipwreck
• Many visits to the wreck – take a piece of the wreck and move it to a safe place
• Conscious and Unconscious awareness
