Another Book on the Shelf

Gen and Jette talk about David Grann's non-fiction novel about the Osage murders of the 1920s.

"Killers of the Flower Moon is a twist on what the Osage call the prairie’s gigantic “flower-killing moon” in May, when taller, aggressive plants snuff out tinier blooming flowers."

Notes:

Apologies for any weird sounds. The wind was howling like crazy and apparently changed Jette's voice at one point.

Charlie Hunnam was the star of The Lost City of Z.

Bagged milk will always be weird.

This was our first episode back after the holidays and we were a little rusty.

Travis Barker's memoir "Can I Say" is sad and beautiful.

Gen and Jette talk about Stephanie Wittels Wachs' memoir about her brother Harris, who, at the height of his comedic fame, died of a heroin overdose. Notes: We edited out a fair amount of long pauses where we stopped to ponder the awful of this book. It is a very hard book to put into words.

Gen and Jette take a night off from the book club to talk about their favourite authors, featuring John Steinbeck, Stephen King, Donna Tartt, Dennis Lehane, Maggie Stiefvater, and Chuck Klosterman. *Disclaimer* Jette had been up since 4am and Gen was still on Copenhagen time during the recording so the english language wasn't flowing too well LOL

Show Notes:

Snow White came out in 1938 - not 1939.

Adam's brother is Charles.

The story that The Drop is an adaptation of "Animal Rescue"

Gen and Jette talk about The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman, a prequel to Practical Magic. The book follows the Owens' siblings through their lives, the ups and downs and other complications that come along with being witches. If you hear any crinkling in the background, it's just our resident PodCat, Cypher, eating her dinner. Book Revelation - Vincent and William live "happily ever after" because Vincent is the first wizard in the family and NOT an Owens' woman so the curse does not apply!!!!

Gen and Jette talk about Andy Weir's second novel, Artemis, which follows Jazz Bashara living in Artemis, a colony on the moon. The book is about a heist and the uncovering of a conspiracy. The girls talk about how the story relates to capitalism and about how the main character just really isn't very likeable.
