Some women are crying "foul", saying the documentary releases secrets about African American women's hair that shouldn't be discussed publically. On the next Another View, we'll talk about the social and economic ramifications associated with Black hair. Is it still a "no-no" to wear an ethnic hairstyle when interviewing for a job? What message is sent when one wears braids or locks? Here are some shocking, but sadly, probably not surprising statistics: African American youth make up 30 percent of youth arrested, even though they are only 17 percent of the overall youth population in the U.S. Black youth make up 62 percent of young people prosecuted in the adult criminal system and are 9 times more likely to receive an adult prison sentence than white youth. There is something amiss in our juvenile justice system. On the next Another View, we'll talk about the system and ways to keep our young people out of prison with the Honorable Jerrauld Jones, Presiding Judge in Norfolk Circuit Court, and the Honorable Eileen Olds, Presiding Judge with Chesapeake Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. This Saturday is the African American Men's Health Forum at Norfolk State University, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. There will be information and screenings on all kinds of male health issues, and prostate cancer will be central to the discussion.
