Have you ever thought, "I mean, I'd love to get a job in the entertainment industry, but I majored in business - I don't have the qualifications or the connections to pull that off."
I hear assumptions and defeating statements like that ALL TOO OFTEN, so I figured it was time to bring on the poster-child for defying conventions and busting into a new industry: my friend, Carly Hicks.
Carly decided to LEVERAGE her business major instead of feeling limited by it once she realized she wasn't interested in the traditional business jobs and wanted to pursue a career in film instead. Now she's all the better for it as her boldness and perseverance landed her in her current position as a Page for NBCUniversal in New York City.
Here are the highlights of what you have to look forward to in this episode:
How much does your major really matter?
A reality check on the fact that (if played right) all your college and work experience should expand your opportunities to do what you really want to do, not limit them
How to communicate yourself as a competitive candidate through your resume and networking strategy to get a job in a new industry that you might not have experience or even connections in
How to know if you passion should be a hobby or something you do as a job
How we should be faithful with the desires God put on our heart, and how to tell if your desires are just fleeting feelings or a true passion
