Greetings and salutations, it’s another AntipodeanSF Radio Show, today designated Fath 703. What’s that fath all about? Well, it’s like this. I’m Nuke, your host and editor, and Fath 703 is named after Arthur Edward Fath, astronomer, who was instrumental in the discovery that spiral nebulae were huge collections stars at a distance. Well, it’s spheroidal like a soccer ball, and it is part of the Local Group, actually yet another satellite of the Milky Way, and is currently about 261 million light years away. Not so far by recent shows.

G’day and welcome to The AntipodeanSF Radio Show Cygnus A. G’day, I’m Nuke, and I’m here to introduce what is to us here in the Sol system, one of the strongest radio sources in the sky. It was discovered by Grote Reber in 1939. Later, in 1951, Cygnus A was identified with an optical source, in this case becoming the first radio galaxy. Something big’s happening at Cygnus A, since two radio jets extend many times its width, easily visible even though we’re 600 million light years away, and there are two intense hot spots at the far edge of the jets, where ejected material is colliding with the intergalactic medium. If you’ve read Contact, by Carl Sagan — and why haven’t you if that’s the case, go and get on with that soon.

Now. Where was I. Oh yes. In Contact, Cygnus A makes an appearance as the result of intelligences actively creating a galaxy.

Creation. That’s what we’re all about here on the show. So let’s do it. Two stories today from Issue 212 of AntipodeanSF magazine, a story that’s perhaps a gender-bender, and the second with a bend in the details.

G’day again and welcome to the AntiSF Radio show Circinus, coming at you from 13 million light-years away. Circinus, like speculative fiction should, is undergoing tumultuous changes, as rings of gas are being ejected from it. And Circinus is sneaky. Although it can be seen using a small telescope, it was not noticed until 1977 because it lies close to the plane of the Milky Way and is obscured by galactic dust.

Hopefully, not so obscured any more are our stories and authors, two of them featured today right here inside Circinus.
