  This Psalm is all about the relationship of the child of God to the word of

  God and the God of the word. The relationship of the child of God to the

  word of God and the God of the Word.

  The second stanza is the beth stanza. It corresponds to the letter “b” in

  English. So, every first letter of every word in the Hebrew starts with the

  letter “b.” It’s like the Bible in Sesame Street Edition.

  As we come to the second stanza, the first two verses in particular are

  very familiar to you if you’ve spent time in the church. All about how to

  get more of God and more of his ways in your mind and more of his power in

  your life?

  a reputation around the world for at least being interested in happiness.

  We want to smile and laugh and express ourselves. Certainly, on the

  spectrum there are other cultures that are far less expressive, more stoic.

  But happiness is sometimes elusive. And the state of American happiness

  right now is trending downward. One researcher from the World Happiness

  Report (seriously) wrote last year prior to COVID and the social unrest we

  are facing in 2020:

• July 24, 2020Magnify the Greatness of God - Psalm 115

  Take your Bibles and turn with me to Psalm 115. Psalm 115. Well we love to

  open the Scriptures together each week and hear from the Lord. We depend

  upon it. We need preaching because God’s Word is our only authority.

  Jesus emphasized preaching in his earthly ministry. When people began to

  follow Jesus to get their physical needs met, he called a timeout.

  Mark 1:38 (NASB95) He said to them, “Let us go somewhere else to the towns

  nearby, so that I may preach there also; for that is what I came for.”

  So, it thrills our heart.

  For me it’s a joy because I get to discover and share. I don’t have to make

  anything, I’m like a miner digging and then sharing what’s already there.

  But this week was a great discovery for me. Psalm 115, at least the

  beginning of it has been a favorite of mine for nearly 20 years. It was on

  my list for this summer.

  When I first began my career years as a small business owner, I had big

  aspirations to take a company global. I had a list of international

  metropolitan markets that I wanted to enter. I had more imagination than

  brains.

  You are the product today of yesterday in many ways. Proverbs repeat the

  themes of sowing and reaping. Huge principle in parenting and in life.

  You can’t neglect your physical body and then be suddenly ready for action

  when the moment is required. What you eat. Whether you exercise. Imagine

  it’s a beautiful day and out of nowhere someone says, “hey let’s go on a

  hike—the view’s incredible, it’s gonna be about 8 miles.” In that moment

  all you’ve got is what you’ve got.

  You can’t speed train in the car on the way to the trail head. Rather, the

  culmination of your previous days is your preparedness for that moment.

  So, it is in our life with God.

  When the difficult days come unexpectedly and descend upon us, we have

  whatever we’ve prepared for. Whatever we have cultivated as the pattern of

  our life. You have either been learning to depend upon God and his

  promises, or you have been cultivating secret distrusts of the Lord.
