Apron Work Podcast

In this week's episode, we discuss two topics in the wrestling world that has stirred up a bit of controversy as of late. First, we look at the reaction and debate surrounding the entrance by CM Punk at AEW Revolution, where he turned back the clock and came out to his music from Ring of Honor, "Miseria Cantare" by AFI. Plenty of fans felt there needed to be a better explanation so they could appreciate it more, while others feel like this shouldn't even be an issue at all and seems a bit pointless (including us). Then, we look into the dumpster fire of a start to what is known as CYN, Control Your Narrative, headlined by EC3, Adam Scherr, and Killer Kross. Already making headlines for all of the wrong reasons, we talk about how much has gone wrong so far and how getting off on the wrong foot already makes it hard to get into for most fans.

In this week's BONUS episode, we take a look at AEW's Revolution this Sunday. Since we recorded the episode on Wednesday after Dynamite, the card was subject to change, but we went with what had already been announced by going match by match with our predictions. We discuss who will win both of the Buy-In bouts announced at the time, who will be the final two entrants in the Face of the Revolution Ladder match and dig deeper into the story behind the CM Punk and MJF Dog Collar match.

In this week's episode, we follow the huge announcement by AEW CEO Tony Khan that he has purchased Ring of Honor. We look into what this means for the future of AEW and ROH, respectively and collectively. We speak on what this means for the current ROH roster, the use of the ROH brand, will it lead to future purchases by Khan, and if it could lead to a streaming service or deal. We also dove a bit into other surprising news released during their Revolution 2022 media call when Khan speaks about adding an AEW Trios Championship.

In this week's episode, we kicked things off by bragging about how many members of the Ring of Honor Hall of Fame class we got right, although we still don't remember all four that we predicted. Then we get onto the real story by discussing the news of YouTuber Logan Paul wrestling in a tag team match at WrestleMania 38. We dig into whether this was a good idea for WWE, how integral celebrities have been to WWE, especially at WrestleMania, and how they seem to utilize that star power into viewers that wouldn't typically watch wrestling. We then run down some of our favorite celebrities when it comes to wrestling, and Carlos goes on a bit of a rant about the current state of boxing.

In this week's episode, we discuss the news of Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes leaving All Elite Wrestling. Even with previous knowledge of Rhodes appearing on television without a contract, this was a shocking announcement that included statements from Tony Khan, Rhodes, and his wife, Brandi Rhodes, who also left the company. We try to figure out if we believe the news, talk about how we felt when we initially heard the news, and where Rhodes will go from here. We also try to figure out the recent rumors of Rhodes returning to WWE and Vince McMahon wanting to utilize him in a marquee match at WrestleMania.

In this week's episode, we discuss the true meaning behind ratings in the world of wrestling. We look at two recent examples with a tweet by Eric Bischoff in response to a Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com post about the ratings on Monday Night Raw that aired on SyFy and a tweet by Chris Van Vliet that said there is only one 5 star match in TNA/Impact's history. We dig into how truly meaningless Nielsen ratings and Meltzer's match ratings are when used to compare wrestling and how these ratings affect wrestling debates.

In this week's episode, we discuss the results of the dumpster fire that WWE dared to call the 2022 Royal Rumble. To the WWE's credit, it succeeded in uniting WWE and AEW fans by getting them all to agree that this was an awful show. After doing a quick rundown of the results, we decided to focus on the news of the last-minute changes, Shane McMahon's involvement, and how they failed to do much of anything right, especially when it came to the Men's Royal Rumble match.

In this week's BONUS episode, we take a look at WWE's Royal Rumble this Saturday. We went match by match with our predictions, including both the Men's and Women's Royal Rumble. We discuss any surprise entrants we may see in each Rumble match, how we feel the match results may lead into WrestleMania, and which match on the card that we believe will be the main event of the evening. Carlos also goes on a mini-rant about including Charlotte Flair, the SmackDown Women's Champion, in the Rumble instead of having her defend the title in another match and giving that spot to anyone else.

In this week's episode, we discuss the news that Ring of Honor announced that they are establishing an ROH Hall of Fame and will name their inaugural class in the coming weeks. We then decided to ramble on what is wrong with Hall of Fames in general because of the ROH Hall of Fame announcement combined with the recent Baseball Hall of Fame selection of David Ortiz from the Boston Red Sox. After we both went on a rant, we decided on a whim to create categories for a Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame. Then we each voted in members for what will forever be known as Apron Work Podcast's inaugural Wrestling Hall of Fame class.

In this week's episode, we look at the name change heard around the NXT 2.0 world when WALTER was supposed to change his name to that of a Nazi U-boat commander (Gunther Stark) but instead settled for a coffee shop worker from Central Perk (Gunther). With the ridiculous name change, we discussed our feelings on how they missed searching Gunther Stark to see the history behind the name before filing for a trademark. We also talked about the inconsistency in WWE's history with changing ring names for new talent, ignoring a wrestler's lineage, and dropping the first or last name from established wrestlers. And as a bonus, we talk about the rumor that Vince McMahon doesn't view Finn Balor as a top guy, we welcome back Jon Moxley to AEW, and we talk about the comment made about Moxley's return by Bully Ray.
