1977: A total of £230,425 was stolen in robberies in a 3 month period this year.
1994: A schoolboy was attacked with a screwdriver by 2 youths who were under pressure from drug dealers for money.
1983: The national council for educational awards is being asked to grant formal recognition to the Shannon College of Hotel management to enable it to confer degrees on its graduates while residential courses are also being made available to the Shannon students.
1994: Nicola O'Neil of Foyle Park in Shannon was put on the road to a career in modelling when she won this years model search final.

Onto music news on this day In 1995 Coolio featuring L.V. scored his first UK No.1 single with 'Gangsta's Paradise'.
1997 R.E.M. drummer Bill Berry announced that he was leaving the group after 17 years, becoming a farmer.
And finally celebrity birthdays on this day – actress Annie Potts was born in America in 1952 and actor Devon Murray was born in Ireland on this day in 1988 ans this is some of the stuff he has done.
